Hi all,
I now own a BCD996xt and a 396xt, both of which I program with Freescan. I use more or less the same codeplug in both radios (with subtle changes), but I would like to set general options for the radio slightly differently. I cannot seem to find any way to set up profiles on a per-radio basis with Freescan.

Let's say I want to have to have the portable display different startup text than the mobile as an example, or wanted different tone monitoring options in the HT as opposed to the mobile. I'm sure there's gotta be some way to accomplish this. It's also saving all files with a .996 extension. Is this normal behaviour or can it be selectable based on the radio model involved?

Yes the .996 extension is normal.

I have more than 40 Uniden scanners 15's, 396's, and 996's. Both generations of each.

In FreeSCAN, I go to the 'Setup Scanner Options' tab and change any options that I want for each model, and then just change the Filename to whatever makes sense to me when I save it.

I also go into the 'Tools' tab and 'System Quick Key Manager' and set the default to be all off. Then I only activate the systems I care about at the time. That's much better than turning off close to 100 systems.

You can also set any combination of SQK's you want.

Here's a sample of a few of my FreeSCAN files from one of my computers.

Many of them are just adding one or two new or updated system files to all of my scanners.

The files in the list below that begin with numbers, are for just one system file and the number is the SQK for that system.
Most of my system file names begin with the SQK number. That makes it easier to keep it all straight. ;)

I have several hundred system files, and many of my scanners are 'tailored' to a specific purpose.
So the systems programmed into them vary slightly. (I've maxed out the memory on even the XT models at one time or another.)

One nice feature of FreeSCAN is that you can just add or replace a system without reprogramming the entire scanner.
That goes VERY fast.

The few times that I've reprogrammed all of my scanners at the same time, even using three computers to do it all has taken HOURS!
Especially the BCD396T's, they take forever compared to the others.
