My 'final' shack setup.

My 'final' shack setup (unless I win the lottery). Top left to right: HF packer amp, FT-817ND, MFJ-971, BC-246T, VX-6R, VX-170, IC-718, MFJ-945. Bottom left to right: MFJ-921, V-8000, SEC-1223, MFJ-297, Z-11PRO, IC-7200, J38. Under the desk I store electronic equipment and HT accessories. The antenna switches on the wall are to switch the different radios with antennas. I use a Carolina Windom at 40 feet for HF and a Ringo Ranger II for VHF. My station can operate 160 - 2 meters and 440 mHz. The VX-6R can operate 220 mHz. I have not gone digital yet, I am from the old school so I am getting back into CW first.

Thanks for all the comments. Its always nice to hear good things from others. The BC-246T is a hand-held scanner, but I rarely turn it on unless there is bad weather or a fire. I have been a firefighter/EMT for 25 years and was a park ranger for 20 years (now retired). Listening to a scanner 24/7 reminds me too much of work. lol As stated in an earlier post this station was a compromise because of room. Its located in the corner of the pantry in the basement where I can talk without others bothering me or me bothering others. I guess it could be called my "Man Cave Shack".

Nice! Hows that MFJ workin? I saw one for sale- that's ssb right? Says you can hear a lot with just a 10ft wire from what I read?

Scanmanjay, I know that MFJ has had quality control problems, but I have had no problems. I use the MFJ-971 with the FT-817 because of its small footprint, no power requirements, and its ability to tune anything (co-ax, balanced lines, randon wires) most electronic tuners don't offer that luxury. The MFJ-945E with the IC-718 was my first tuner, I used it for years when I was in Army MARS. If you noticed I use a MFJ-921 with my V-8000 because I find that the Ringo Ranger II is hard to tune and weather does affect the tuning. Since I sometimes run 75 watts for simplex ops. I want most of that being radiated out not back to the rig. I am a manual tuner ham (I did have a senior moment when I got the Z-11 pro) because I like to know I have the lowest possible SWR, not the 1.5 to 1 that most electronic tuners are happy with. I can usually tune 1.2 to 1 (or better) on any of my manual tuners.
