I know it has been months but I finally pulled the pin and ordered a keyboard tray to place the mixer on, it should arrive this week. For now I moved it to a stool under the desk, pretty much in the same spot it will live in once the keyboard tray arrives.
I had filed your suggestion away for future consideration and thought it to be a good one!
While it might not last real long (as I am considering a Behringer 1602 due to the much smaller size) it might cause me to keep the oversized X2222 I have now.
