Hey there folks. Got bored today so I decided to put my BCT-8 in my newly aquired Explorer. I mounted it in dash with an aftermarket stereo. I was fortunate that it has a Double DIN hole. Hope you like the pics. I know the antenna pics didn't show up very well. On the drivers side is an A/S VHF Hi 5/8 wave on an L-Bracket, and on the passenger side is a Motorola 700/800 Antenna on L-Bracket. I know, I know, man up & drill holes. I have drilled holes in every vehicle so far but this one. My better half has forbidden me from drilling any until at least a year has past, so I'm gonna try to keep her happy. Because if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy, LOL. Hope you enjoy the pics !!!

Nice clean install FD, and that 96 looks like you just took it out of the box (no scratches, no wear apparent).

Thanks guys. Yeah my 96 is in perfect condition. Doesn't see much use outside the house. With the VIPER system getting more use, especially the digital stuff, it'll start going out with me more. I'd like to have a digital mobile, but for the price I paid for the BCT-8 I couldn't beat it. (It was free :p) I had loaned it to a friend a while back & forgot about it. Well I was brain storming today about how I wanted my new vehicle set up but with the economy the way it is getting a new mobile wasn't in my (well my bankers, aka my fiance's) budget, lol. Then I remembered that I had let him use it a while back, so I went collecting. He wasn't happy, but what do ya do?

Thanks for the positive remarks so far !!!

I got a 2002 Exploder, with the same radio setup. Where did you get that double-Din adapter to house the stereo and scanner?

I got the kit from my local stereo shop. It is made by Metra.

The kit is great quality, and the fit is perfect. I'm not using an external speaker and was surprised by how well the sound can be heard. There is no loss of sound quality & no distortion from it being in the dash. I'm glad it has a double DIN opening because with the full center console it kinda limits your options, unless you get a Jotto or Havis console.

Nice job!

Added benefit is you also have a stereo better than the factory one.

cradle???

Where did you get the cradle? I remember having a porta-vice or gripmatic or something with the red release button on the side and that was the only thing that will grip a scanner, now all I can find is cell phone vent-mount junk.

Very clean intall, VERY similar to mine, of which I guess I should post pics of soon.

Rich

by the way, the Explorer looks very "news-sexy". Not a bad look at all.

The last 2 way shop I worked for had a box full of them that we used to display our old phone lineup's. We were doing some spring cleaning & I found them in a box that was going to the dumpster. Best hand held holder by far.

Tell ya what...... I'll drill the holes if you'll give me a house to live in. Actually scratch that..... Just give me a hole to lay in, cause that's what I'll need if I drill holes in it this early, LOL.

I hear ya man! Things like this here have to go past the appropriations committee and then through the approval board.

Very nicely done! I'm about to do the same with an identical explorer and I plan to put wither a BCD996T or a similar-sized radio in the dash to free up room in my console.
