You get anything on TSA? I get "001" or "000" on them. When I program an ASTRO radio for RX-only with those NACs, I don't get anything. That almost makes me think they are running talkgroups.

Mark,

001 only out here in Tucson.....

They are, sort of. If you look at TSA "channel" listings like the one on my website, you will see that the designators differ but the frequency is the same. My educated guess would be that information contained with the NAC distinguishes one digital "channel" from another on the same frequency.

Not yet. I have not yet had a chance to play with it at work, plus my main laptop is in the shop.

I'll probably have to go in sometime on my own time, or hang around after work and listen. I have monitored the TSA using my scanner at work from time to time (we're not supposed to use scanners since we have so much else to do; it does get quiet occasionally though), and found that they don't talk too much... on the radio.

Hey anyone got this program working I have not been able to get it to work I have tried two different computers. Someone that has it working should post what hey have done to get this program to work so that others can use it.

thanks

Hi sterling;

Please go back and read the comments about running a software oscilloscope to see the actual signal. You will want to experiment with ...

a. signal level
b. invert vs. normal
c. microphone vs. line input

If adjusting / trying all of the above does not work for you then you will probably need to build or purchase a buffer amplifier. Your radio's discriminator wasn't built / designed with the intent of feeding the signal straight into a computer sound input. Some sound inputs are high impedance which means they won't place too much of an electrical load on an already weak signal.

The issue of impedance matching varies for different radios vs. different computers and sound subsystems. Mobile and base radios seem to do better. Installing a buffer amp between the radio and computer will generally result in better decoding.

Just telling you my experience I tried 3 different tapped scanners and none of them worked. I then tried the tap on a Motorola Maxtrax and it worked perfect.

Rick,

Could you add support for Algorithm ID's ($80, $84 etc), the Message Indicator (IV) the Manufacturer's ID and TGID please? This would be very interesting to watch indeed.

Thanks,
Matt

I just ordered a Uniden Bearcat BC996T. Can anybody suggest where I can get the discriminator audio modification done on that scanner.

Thank you very much for that. The other thing I was wondering is if I go to my Yaesu FT8800, can I get direct discriminator audio from the mini-din packet connector. If so, I will just use that for kNACk and other programs.

I was just looking online at Yaesu cables and it appears as if I already have the following:

-CT-29B http://www.rtsars.com/yaesu_Template.cfm?yaesupage=ADMS2I#

-CT-29A http://www.rtsars.com/yaesu_Template.cfm?yaesupage=ADMS1E#

-CT-28A

Can I connect them with a DB9 Male to DB9 Male Gender Changer http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...ale&kw=db9+male+to+db9+male&parentPage=search and, if so, would this work to get direct discriminator audio from my Yaesu FT8800 through the packet connection to the computer and then do NAC decoding with kNACk?

I'M USING A KEYBOARD / MOUSE CORD AND THE GROUND / 9600 PACKET PIN ON THE MINI DIN CONNECTOR.......FOR WEAKER SIGNALS THE NFM MODE HELPS A LOT ALSO....

Yes. Just use the 9600 Baud data output pin.

Maybe this is starting to sink in now. Do I simply need to connect:

CT-39A Pin 2 GND (signal ground) Red Wire
Pin 4 RX9600 (9600 bps Packet Data Output) Yellow Wire

to the two wires on the 6-foot shielded cable. And then ground to ground and the yellow to the non-ground? And then none of the other pins are use for this application?

Correct.

To save yourself some moola, just go get an el-cheapo computer mouse with a PS/2 connector (should cost all of about $3-5) and use that cable by virtue of opening up the mouse, unplugging the cable from the inside guts of the mouse and clipping the little connector off. All you have to do then to make your cable is find the appropriate wires (use a VOM), strip and tin the ends and apply the appropriate connector.

Much less expensive. I did this to make a programming cable for my 8800; since I already had a cable for my Yaesu handhelds (also works with the RS scanners), all I needed was an inline female 1/8" connector on the other end of the mouse cable to make the adapter.

And since you're a ham (right?), don't forget to save the guts of the mouse that you cannibalized and add them to your junk box.
