I found my original cable and uploaded a fresh config, with no joy getting anything from the new Nashua system. Here's what I have in the bank as viewed in Win96:

Bank 4 Ch 00 852.55000 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 01 852.75000 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 02 853.26250 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 03 853.45000 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 04 851.05000 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 05 851.60000 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 06 851.77500 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 07 852.36250 MOT 0.0 D
Bank 4 Ch 08 853.51250 MOT 0.0 D

Bank type is set to MOT, and both 3600 and 9600 are set to "Normal." I've entered in the NFR and NPD talkgroups.. I'm probably thinking too hard and missing something silly.

I have a 996xt and 436HP and did not have to create a bank. You need to program it as P25 not Motorola that is probably why you're not hearing anything.

I ended up investing the $15 and used ARC96 to import the database to my Pro-96. Now it's not silent, but is giving static and often doesn't pick up which talkgroup is active. Next time I go for a walk I think I'm going to stand as close as I can get to one of the transmitters and see what happens. Maybe I just need to find a new home in the house for the unit.

I don't believe the Pro-96/2096 can follow APCO Project 25 Standard (Phase 1)

I don't recall if the 96/2096 can follow a full P25 system. Been a while since I programmed a pro96.

If that's the case then you can listen to the system by programming all channels in the system as conventional channels because the voice channels are P25. Be sure to lock the control channel out. This is how it had to be done way back in the early days of scanning (analog) trunked systems before trunk tracking scanners were developed. Keeping the control channel programmed but locked out is handy in case the control data gets moved to one of the other channels and the current control channel becomes a voice channel.

The drawback to this method is that it won't track any talkgroups and you will hear everything on the system including stuff you don't want to hear. ENC talkgroups won't be muted and you'll hear the raw garbled traffic.

The old non-trunking method should work because the voice channels are still P25 Phase 1.

Good luck.

Just took a listen on 853.45. The old 3600 baud machine gunning of the old (7C25) system is gone and has been replaced by the new (5C6) system control channel data.

I'd say the old system is officially gone.

I was just working on a Pro-2096 and I couldn't figure it out. Maybe with software, but wasn't working by hand.

All the more reason to get away from a Motorola race-to-waste trunking system. That way THEY can decide when it's time to replace hardware. Not the vendor. A small town like that buying a digital trunking network or joining one is absolutely and utterly preposterous.

All the radio vendors reach a point in time that they no longer support the old radio equipment. How come you are always trying to put the blame on the radio vendor when they announce that the 10 to 15 year old equipment is no longer being supported?

If you really dig down into other vendors, you will see the same thing happening. Take IFR who made very good service monitors. They too reach a point where they can't obtain parts to repair their service monitors.

The same has taken place with Icom, and other radio vendors. Don't just point the finger at Motorola.

While I have a certain bias, it is well known Motorola would start "End of Life" processing before other radio manufacturers. It did with the XTS/XTL series and most before that. However, in their defense, it didn't happen to every model and a few models were brought back. Other than the APX7000, the APX series has not had any End of Life processing and they may not be as quick to do it because of competition and a good product line.

Anyone in the Nashua area willing to program two scanners(RS PRO-106+Uniden BCD 396XT) as I'm completely lost with this computer stuff. I can compensate you for your time. Thanks
