Hello,
I just picked up a Radio Shack Pro-96 and I follow the instructions to program talk groups and once I press "pgm" then "trunk" the screen is supposed to show "Bank, ID, Mot:, and ID #:" but mine just shows "Bank, ID, Motorola" but does not give me the option to enter the talk group ID's. Is there something I am doing wrong? I was refferencing the instructions at: PRO-96 (200-0526) Tutorial: How To Assign A Text Tag To A Group ID

Please Help.

Thanks,
Ben

Scan the channels, when it locks on one, then hit the trunk button. This will save the talk group. Once the talk group is saved, then you can assign text.

I just dusted off my Pro-96 for the first time in a while. It was programmed by an expert, and while I am a novice at this, I do know how things work. However, listening to my county's trunked system, which is divided into regions, I am picking up EVERYONE'S banter from across my county. The correct talkgroups are programmed in. I would love to erase one of the talkgroups, specifically the police, as they really tie up the scanner. I would much rather only pick up just FIRE and EMS. But I can't seem to eliminate the police group. Is there a way to only pick up certain talk groups while scanning through a trunked system?

is there A HOW TO guide for pro-96

Is there a REALLY good guide (like programming your Pro-96 for dummies) that someone can tell me of? i can put in freqs (like 145.XXXX) but this Talk ID's, groups, and trunking is WAAAAAY over my head :) Or, if anyone knows how to do the "Download the Database Files" from this website and load them into the scanner thing, that would be cool to. i have read alot of threads and have seen that programming this thing by hand is a pain and time consuming. i dont mind doing it by hand, in fact i would rather do it by hand so i can learn from my experiance on how its done. Anyway, i just got my scanner and i want to make full use of it so any advice would be helpfull. maybe if someone could tell me where to find out info on talk groups, what they are, how the coorispond to the freqs., etc that would be nice. like i said i want all the info i can get, thanks :)

As to downloading from database you will need software (Win96 or ARC96), a programming cable and be a premium subscriber to RR.
