Read this thread and found DJ-X11T very interesting.

But i could not find
* a command reference for the serial port to config OmniRig support
* any bandwidth value for the provided IQ signal. 20 - 40 kHz or more?

Can someone help out?
Probably some I/Q recording samples?

Go to the site in my sig. I think you will find most of what you are looking for there.

Newbie Question Here

Sorry for this very basic question. I am very new to radios and bought the DJ-X11 today. I am just playing around and learning the functionality of this radio. There is a cable refered to as an ERW-8. It appears to be a standard USB mini connector on the back of the charging cradle.

1) Do I specifically need the ERW-8 or will any standard USB cable work?

2) On the Alinco web site it refers to a driver that is required but I do not see wher to download that. Is that part of the ERW-8 and the reson for the higher cost?

Again, apologize for the ignorance here. Trying to learn. Thanx.

That cable is for computer control of the radio. It will also program the radio.

The cable is basically a USB to Serial converter with a mini USB connector on the end that fits the Alinco DJ-X11 charging base. I allows you to charge the radio from the computer and send computer computer commands from control software to the DJ-X11. You could probably make up one from a USB to Serial converter cable. However, because of the charging aspect and the fact that it terminates in a mini USB port connector it is probably better in the long run just to buy the Alinco cable.

The driver is not needed in Windows 7 since it will automatically recognize the usb to serial converter. However, you may need the driver for other flavors of Windows. The driver download is referenced on the Alinco website at the bottom of the navigation bar on the left.

Well after playing around with a Funcube Dongle Pro and with my long owned SDR-14 and enjoying the SDR approach, AND reading this thread, I decided that despite my earlier misgivings with the audio of this receiver it was too interesting to pass up, so I ordered one. I'm looking forward to a wide variety of use with this receiver to include its SDR capability as well as its discriminator tap functions for decoding DSD. I successfully used my Funcube Dongle with HDSDR and Virtual Cable in conjunction with UniTrunker and it worked great; I expect I'll get good results with this setup as well and obviously much better front end filtering than the FCD has.

I'll report back on how many different SDR programs I can make work with this receiver, both in Windows and Linux. Should be fun. Thanks for an informative thread.

Well, I AM impressed. I'm using the DJ-X11T with its IQ output in conjunction with KG-SDR software. I have not received my ERW-8 cable so KG-SDR is not remote controlling it yet, but the IQ works dandy. I am passing the audio via virtual cable to UniTrunker and getting very good decode on the local 800 MHz TRS. Very impressive.

I was initially frustrated at performance, but quickly discovered I had a temperamental audio cable. Replacing it solved the "problem".

I'm still not overwhelmed by the speaker audio. Of course one can't expect wonders from such a small radio when it comes to sound, but I'll live with it when portable and use its IQ option when stationary and near a PC.

Lots of bang for the buck here.

I received my ERW-8 today and I have it installed properly in Windows XP SP3. It is appearing as COM3, which I have set in KG-SDR. However, I'm not able to control the receiver.

I may be a bit confused about the power requirements for the EDC-174. It's my understanding that the ERW-8 cable provides voltage to the 174 for charging. However, to send serial commands to the receiver is it also a requirement to have the EDC-174 connected to its normal DC voltage via the provided wall wort? I can't test; I left the wall wort at home like a dummy. :)

Tone Decoding Software

While at the KG-SDR site I decided to back up a page and see what else was available. Lo and behold I found software called "KG-TONE". From what I'm seeing thus far this does a very nice job of decoding CTCSS and DCS tones as received via the IQ output of the DJ-X11T.

This software is also able to process received audio, but if you want to run it alongside KG-SDR just turn off the volume and the IQ data seems to be shared fine between the programs.

One thing I notice running Windows XP Pro SP3 is that the program is cut off before the bottom of its screeen, right below the CTCSS button. In Windows 7 it appears fine.

Here's the link to the software: ƒVƒOƒiƒŠƒ“ƒO‰ð̓\ƒtƒg@KG-TONE

The page and the readme.txt included are in Japanese, but you'll get the idea, just unzip into its own folder and run it.

Lino, you can dump the IQ data to KG-SDR with just the 3.5mm cable, but every time you wish to change frequencies you'll have to put your hands on the receiver. If you want full control over the DJ-X11 you will need the ERW-8 cable and the EDC-174 drop in charger. I can't vouch for the DX-R8.

Last July (2010) I purchased the DJ-X11T and this July (2011) I purchased the DX-R8T. Both are great receivers so far and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase other Alinco products in the future. I don't have the ERW-8 (or the ERW-7) cable yet so I have been using my Yaesu programming cable with a relatively generic USB to serial converter. I have upgraded the firmware in my DJ-X11T twice so far with no problems using this cable. My firmware is currently at vT2.30. The programming software from Alinco for the DJ-X11T leaves a lot to be desired. I have programmed everything that is in the radio with this software, but I haven't been able to read or write to or from the whole radio at once. I have been sending everything to the radio one channel at a time. I haven't used the KG-SDR software with the DJ-X11 yet (due to lack of cable), but it works very well with the DX-R8 using my old Yaesu programming cable and an audio cable for the signal. I also have been experimenting with the Dream DRM software but haven't found a way to control the radio with the Dream software yet. Apparently there has to be a DLL file written to interface the radio and the software but I have no idea how to do that. I'm hoping that someone with more experience in this area might be able to help me (or all of us) with this problem.

recordings

Thanks for your effort - but these audio recordings are not really helpful.
I'm interested in "non-audio" recordings with highest possible samplerate (>48 kHz) containing the I/Q signal. This way i could get an impression ... and then decide ..

Here are some audio recordings using the KD-SDR software. I hope they're of some help.

Local NOAA Weather
A local PD with a weaker signal.
A weak signal from USCG Boston
A local PD with a stronger signal.

I hosted them at Scan New England as they were too large to .zip up and attach here. I'll leave them up indefinitely. If you would like me to record anything else let me know and I'll do my best asap.

Remote control help

I purchased a DJ-X11 to use for a project at work, but have been playing with it just for fun. I also purchased the ERW-8 cable. I would like to add memory channels using the computer but have been more than a bit frustrated. I got the driver installed, and I was able to install the KG-SDR software. I have been trying to install the remote control software from the Alinco site. http://www.alinco.com/Products/DJ-X11/DJ-X11_remote.zip. When I try and run it, it gives me a "run time error 339, Component MSCOMM32.OCX or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or corrupt". I have tried it on three different computers, XP, 7 and Vista all with the same result. What am I doing wrong?
I was also trying to set the remote COM port as described on page 88 of the manual. For the life of me I can't find "remote com port" on the radio using the directions.
Thanks so much for any help you can give me.
