I have noticed this also. The problem is that it looks like that the Alinco remote control program and the cloning utility was written in Visual Basic. The runtime that programs that were distributed do not install the MSCOMM32.OCX component needed for serial communications. MSCOMM32.OCX is no longer distributed with later versions of windows. You will need to Google MSCOMM32.OCX and find a place to download it. Once you have the file you will need to do the following:

1. Copy the file to your windows/system32 directory
2. Go to the Start Menu/Accessories/Run
3. Enter regsvr32/C:/Windows/System32/MSCOMM32.OCX

The program should tell you the file was registered.

You should now be able to run the Remote Control Program and the Cloning Utility

The DJ-X11T is a great radio for the money, but still needs better software support

Worked great, even figured out how to turn the COM port on. Is there a way to program more than ten memory channels from the tables?

I probably wouldn't use the DJ-X11 outdoors unless I had a case for it. Even though it is well made, it definitely would not stand up to getting wet or dropped onto a hard surface.

With the rubber ducky you won't get much on HF without a longer antenna. A portable rollup antenna or a long wire would probably work ok.

Connecting the DJ-X11 to a larger antenna works well, but you may get some overload or overlapping signals. Using the radio with the IQ output and a SDR software package will help to reduce the problems you may encounter with a larger antenna.

Nice radio but at HF...

I bought the E version about 3 weeks ago.
Unfortunately it came with the 1.23 Firmware instead of the latest 2.10...
I also bought a Diamond RH789 to replace the default duck antenna.
From my QTH I expected to receive a lot of HF utility stations (I like NY /Santa Maria Aeronautical stuff) but I soon discovered that it's a hard job with the Diamond.
To compare, it was much worse that those videos I saw on YouTube of a Icom IC-R20 + indoor telescopic antenna receiving hams at 49/80m etc.
I can barely hear Shannon Volmet at 13264 for example.
Same thing for other MWARA frequencies.
Audio should be stronger. You can barely hear the above stations but ONLY in a 100% silent environment or with a good headphone.
With a ~3m wire attached to the telescopic antenna with a alligator clip situation improved a bit at HF but I honestly expected something more.
My next step will be building a long wire + Balun antenna but first I have to update firmware.
Does anybody know if the old Firmware version (1.23) could be the cause of the poor HF reception ?

I have updated my firmware twice so far with no issues. I don't own either the ERW-7 or ERW-8 yet so I used a Yaesu programming cable. This is a standard serial connector to 3 conductor cable and was attached to an actual serial port. The Yaesu cable doesn't work very well with the programming software. I can only transfer 1 channel at a time but eventually it gets the job done. I think the software is designed for and or tested with the Alinco cables.

Mark

I had this problem using a Yaesu serial cable also only one channel at a time. The second time I tried it it didn't work at all. Tried different baud rates with no luck. Plugged the charger into the radio and it worked much to my amazement. It must be voltage dependant. Alinco could do a better job documenting things.

Has anyone successfully got this radio working with Ham Radio Deluxe?
Or does Alinco use a completely different protocol to any of the other manufacturers?

A shame that their own software is so limited compared with what it could be. Take it there are no third party software options......

Yes, software dor the DJ-X11 is pretty much doesn't exist as far as supporting the tuning features and such. However most SDR software with soundcard support will work fine with it. You just have to tune the center frequency manually on the radio. The actual programming and control protocol from the DJ-X11 are very simple text based commands.

I have the radio working well with SDR-Radio, However, the radio is tucked out of the way upstairs as that is where the antenna feed is, and I would like to be able to control it on a PC by using RealVNC. The Alinco software is extremely limited and you only have ten memories on it!

Where can I get a list of the text-based commands? A google search has not uncovered anything....

HDSR works well with the DJ-X11, but does not tune the radio. However, you could use the Alinco remote software to set the center frequency and HDSR to decode IQ. However, HDSDR could tune the radio if some would create an ExtIO.dll file for the DJ-X11. Maybe after enough radios are sold we will see more support for it. Unfortunately most authors of SDR software are not aware that Alincos SDR cable receivers even exist. I have written to a couple and they were not aware that Alinco had SDR capable radios.

Hello everybody,

I developed for my personal use, an ExtIO extention for Alinco DJ-X11 center frequency tune support in HDSDR. I've only test it on my computer with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Wine + Ubuntu 12.04 with HDSDR 2.15, as I'm the only one user, and don't have any HAM friend...
At this moment, you must edit the "ExtIO_djx11.ini" file and modify "port=comX" line to match with your hardware. But if it works for other people than me, I would be happy to add a configuration GUI.

If some of you want to test it, it is freely available on my ( cheap ) website here: HDSDR with Alinco DJ-X11

Please be welcome to send me feedback like "it works", "it don't works at all!" or whatever..

Best regard
Michael

Thank you for sharing this..

I'm having a problem though..

My ERW-8 shows as Com10 on my computer.
I have altered the ini file to reflect this but when I start HDSDR I get the following error...

can't open com10
Code = -1

I'm using Win XP
Any ideas what I can do?

Would love to get this working...

Forget the above port problem...

I changed it from Com10 to Com2 in Windows, re set the ini file for Com 2
and it works fine...
It didn't like the number 10 it seems...

Thank you very very much for this plugin...
You're a star
