Icom had the chance to do a R30 replacement with the R15. Wasted opportunity. Still hoping they are working on a R30 replacement though with P25. With AOR upping the game, maybe Icom will come out with a competitor provided the DV3 beats out the R8600. Will be hard to be it though.

View the IC-R15 as an upgrade to the IC-R6.

I will take a quick guess--- Ham Radio Outlet has the DV1 currently selling at 2099.95. My recollection is that it had been selling for 1100 - 1400 prior to the tariff jolt. When I purchased mine, around 5+ years ago, it was in the 1199 neighborhood.

Given the current tariff status (either real of "manufactured" tariff issues), I would have to guess it would retail around 2100 - 2400. The Icom 8600 seems to have leaped to a whopping 2700+ at HRO.

I would venture to guess that many manufacturers are using the tariff issues to artificially boost costs to the consumer.

Bought my AR-DV1 around the same time as you from HRO and it was about $1,200, maybe a little lower.

$2,100.00 is one heck of a price hike.😮 Especially considering $300 more gets you an IC-R8600.

The DV series and the 8600 are two different animals. The DV series are oriented more for VHF and UHF digital work, and not quite as good on HF, IMHO of course and as always, YMMV. The 8600 is more of an HF workhouse, with some digital modes available on VHF and UHF.

They also have a completely different "feel" to the way that they handle in actual operation across the bands. I'm fortunate to have both, but I would strongly suggest that if this is going to be a major investment, you get at least 30 minutes of "hands-on" with both radios before purchasing.

Also have an IC-R8600 and concur with your observations. I really like my IC-R8600, outstanding radio.

Have owned the R8600. Sweet receiver, no doubt. Didn't use it to its fullest. I prefer portable radios. My R30 kicks but in all frequencies. Wish Icom would come out with a newer version.
