I think that's a Federal requirement (FTC, maybe). If you order something and the merchant hits your credit card with the charges, I believe they have to ship within 30 days or offer to refund your money?

I appreciate the early adopters in the world, but I won't be one of them. The idea of giving a merchant full price for an item that they don't have in stock with no guarantee of when they will be able to ship doesn't sit right with me. And, invariably, the price comes down after the item has been on the market for a while.

I really don't know about the 30 days limit. I think HRO as a good reputation and i want to believe that they would have offered to refund me if the delays would take longer than expected. As for being an early adopter i already own 4 Icom radios (2 receivers and 2 transceivers) i'm taking the bet that this new radio will perform as well as the ones i have.

I do not have a problem with purchasing a new item from HRO.
I will never purchase a used item from HRO. This is based on my experience and others I trust. Do as you want with that advice.

I am with AK9R to some extent. Depending on the price, I have learned that waiting is beneficial.

I believe they will hit the southern stores Friday and ship out next week. Keep an eye for in stock in some west coast stores, it may be worth a phone call to the store. Anaheim is showing in stock as I type this.

Reminds me of my kids following Santa on radar in the 80's...

I like HRO and I've purchased from them many times. But, this practice of online sellers hitting credit cards when they don't have product to ship and don't know when they will have the product needs to stop. It's great that they now have product to ship, but if an online seller took your money more than 30 days ago and hasn't told you when your order will ship, they are running afoul of U.S. Federal Trade Commission rules.

FTC rules for online shopping and delayed shipments:
  • Sellers have to ship your order within the time they (or their ads) say — that goes whether they say “2-Day Shipping” or “In Stock & Ships Today.” If they don’t give a time, they must ship within 30 days of when you placed your order.
  • If there’s a delay shipping your order, the seller has to tell you and give you the choice of either agreeing to the delay or canceling your order for a full refund.
  • If the seller doesn’t ship your order, it has to give you a full refund — not just a gift card or store credit.

I occasionally buy used, but only locally where I can meet the seller.. I won't buy anything used sight-unseen by mail.

HRO is a good outfit. I've made three big purchases from them over the years. Prompt delivery, no problems.

That's a good sign. My reservation was 8/20/20 and converted to an order 11/19/21. I just looked for a message from HRO - but nothing yet. UPS ground is next day delivery when shipped from Milwaukee. Might take two days during the Christmas rush.

I think your reservation placed you at the front end of the queue.

I placed my order with HRO about week after you converted your reservation to an order.

You always pay a premium being an early adopter.

As of this morning, according to an email I just received, HRO Atlanta has not received any 52's.
