6103s been going on and off for a couple months on Union County and West Orange. Are your guys not supposed to be using it?

There has not been a significant of voice traffic but it has been frequently active on both sites from what I've seen on Unitrunker, which I run remotely full-time back home. Could you possibly indicate it's proper use?

I can confirm that 5155 and 5157 are US Marshals.

Not sure what you mean by your guys but I have also been monitoring that TG on and off and it's been quiet all the times I have been listening.

Yes, that's one of the ambulances. EMS and DPW are still using the ICS system, PD is being simulcasted on ICS and VHF but operating on VHF and FD went back to VHF.

I live in Mendham Township Morris County My question is which site should I be programming to hear the most traffic. I would like to specifically hear NJSP and the medevac channels. Thank you.

If you want to listen to the NJSP and medevacs, you should stick to scanning the NJSP 800 MHz system North Simulcast, not the NJICS. The NJICS carries limited NJSP traffic, and the medevac talkgroups may not be active unless a radio is affiliated with the site. They come and go. You will capture everything by scanning the NJSP North Simulcast.

But, if you insist on monitoring the P25 system, then you want to listen on Randolph, which is the primary Morris County site and would carry the most varied traffic.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I just figured I would monitor the NJICS since it sounds better than the 800mhz system.

It does, however any of the talkgroups that have the majority of users still on the analog system, i.e. the NJSP and the medevacs, are going to be analog to digital voice conversion coming over the NJICS. You're still going to hear basically the same quality audio, actually a bit less, when listening to the P25 system if the users are coming in on the analog system. Frankly, you're better off just listening to the original audio on the analog system at that point.

Currently also it's really only a few ships that use the NJICS. In the case of Atlantic Air-1 and Atlantic Air-3, all three birds in the fleet are equipped for both the ICS and NJSP. A couple pilots use one, a couple pilots use the other. The nightly comms/ADS-B check is really the only time you're guaranteed to hear the JEMSTAR talkgroups active on both systems.

It's also worth noting that some of the company medevac talkgroups are exclusive to the P25 system, such as Atlantic (who also handle Cooper), RWJBH, and Hackensack. You won't hear any of those talkgroups on the SmartZone system.

I suspect that explains why I hear Atlantic frequently on NJICS side, especially north of RT 24. I suspect they scan company TG’s too. Rarely do I hear Atlantic on the 800 side.

You'll always hear Atlantic on the 800 side if they're communicating with REMCS on the JEMSTAR talkgroups for a 911 job regardless of which system the pilot chooses to go through. Again, they have both, and can use either. Just depends on who's on the stick.

However, Atlantic does their own flight following now, which is all done on company. So for an interfacility, which AA-1 and AA-3 do a lot of, all Atlantic is going to do is let REMCS know they're unavailable, then the rest will be over company. And that sometimes is just done over the phone while the bird is pushed out of the shed. The same for Lifeflight soon, if they haven't started already.

Eatontown Police are alive and well on the NJICS tonight. Just a couple of transmissions so they might still be on fallback as their main.

Telegraph Hill, TG4737 (128b), RID 3100116. This should be a Hackensack Meridian Health talkgroup. Possibly something to do with Raritan Bay Medical Center or Central Ops 2?
