Encryption

Hi Tom. A document that I saw the other day from LFUCG indicates that the police will use encryption, believing it is necessary to protect medical and other personal information. Other users of the new TRS may or may not use encryption. Each agency can decide for itself.

At some point I think they will live to regret this, as there are often situations where general public access to the comms has been useful. It will certainly be the "end of an era" for a lot of us.

what's going on?

I have been monitoring the frequencies and all the test traffic seems to have stopped? I would have thought they would be gearing up if they intend to be complete by years end? Maybe my setup is not working. I am using an older scanner with DSD to just catch any talk groups. I heard the test traffic several weeks ago but now it seems dead?

Anyone else hearing anything?

Voice testing on the system today... encrypted and in the clear.... rumor is the system becomes hot today or Monday.... other rumor says some officers don't have their radio gear so there is the possibility of both systems being on the air for a while...

Still testing.... heard Lexington Fire Dispatch on TGID 1041... this was a simulcast with TGID 08-021 on the EDACS TRS... Encryption on TGID 105 (I am going to assume that it is a PD TGID given the numbering)...

Lexington Police confirm that they will be switching to the new 800 MHz P25 trunking system on Thursday 12/19 at 0700.

Police officials say they will continue to simulcast on the old VHF channels for a period of time. They say that period could last either few hours or few weeks depending on needs.

Lexington Police units will be utilizing the Tait TP9155/TP9160 for their portable radios.

Over the past few days, TGID 110 was in the clear and seemed to have some police car-to-car activity. LexPD units were following a couple of vehicles on Tuesday afternoon.

TGID 100 appears to be the only Lexington Police channel that is in the clear.

According to the database, this is the "All Call" channel for LexPD.

As of today (Sunday 12/22) Lexington Police have reverted back to the old VHF system until further notice.

Sources say more testing and fixes need to be competed on the new 800 MHz TRS.

This is not welcome news. I have always enjoyed listening to Lexington-Fayette County Government. Even from way up here in Ohio

Lexington police is in the clear for the time being well they are moving to a new full time encrypted digital system.

So you can still pick up Lexington police. It will probably be few months before they switch over.

Lexington Police were supposed to switch over to the new system at the end of December.

For a 24-hour period, everyone was using the new radios on the 800MHz TRS. They continued to simulcast on on the old VHF system during that time. Within that 24-hour period, a piece of equipment failed at one of the TRS sites and everyone was instructed to go back to the old VHF system.

Recently, when VHF channels are busy, the new radios has been used by units in the field for talk-around and car-to-car.

LexPD continues to simulcast the main dispatch channels (CH-2, CH-3, CH-4, CH-5) on the VHF system to the new 800 MHz TRS.

As of 6/3/14, Lexington Police has ended simulcasting on the VHF conventional channels. All new communications on the P25 800MHz TRS are encrypted.

TGID 100, the Lexington Police 'All Call' channel has been previously broadcast in the clear.

Blue Grass Airport Public Safety and airport operations has also completed their move over to the new P25 800MHz TRS.

this was a good read. it saves me a lot of trouble (thanks for that). My mother and her friends will be very sad about this. they all have scanners and listen to the chatter on the metro pd just to keep tabs on what is going on.
thanks again.

my pro96 scanner will not track the new p25 i know the police talkgroups is encrypted but i want be able to track the unencrypted talking groups on the system

Turn your scanner off, then on again.... when the welcome screen appears press "3"... you should have CPU Version 1.3 (foto attached to the post showing what I mean), that was a factory upgrade offered a few years ago.... that is the trick to getting your scanner to track the new Lexington TRS... If you have CPU 1.3 and use WIN500 send me a copy of your load and let me take a look at it....

Win96 or ARC96... 500 is for the 106 and its family. Either Win96 or ARC96 make programming stuff much easier.

my 96 scanner has the 1.4 dsp update and cpu is F1.0 its still not tracking the system do i have to download WIN500 to program the scanner right

>See Post #39 in this thread.... CPU needs to be V 1.3, this was a factory modification a few years ago, don't know if they are still being done by Rat Shack.... That is what you need to monitor the New Lexington TRS, what little there is to monitor.<

How does the CPU 1.4/DSP 1.4 perform on it? (Final versions of both)

Not sure, the 2096 I have came from the factory with 1.4/1.3 and I never did get around to updating to DSP 1.4.... give me a dfay or two and I'll update and let you know.... 1.4/1.3 works really well, good audio (on the TGIDS that are clear) and good coverage...
