Just an odd question but how to you confirm an encrypted channel? It's encrypted so the public doesn't here the radio radio traffic.

I was kind of wondering the same thing, djones87401. Seems like someone must have access to some inside information, based on the substantial additions made to the talkgroup database recently.

256-bit encryption only has 115,792,089,237,316,195,423,570,985,008,687,907,853,269,984,665,640,564,039,457,584,007,913,129,639,936 combinations. A Raspberry Pi makes easy work of going through all the possibilities. ;-)

On TGID 111 you hear...
RID 12345: "Go to Tac 89"
RID 12346: "10-4"
Then you see RIDs 12345 & 12346 show up on a new unkown TGID 999 that Unitrunker shows Svc P4 (encrypted)
or maybe the dispatcher or supervisor tells everybody responding to x incident move to Tac 89 then you see a bunch of affiliations to TGID 999.

or maybe the talkgroup isn't 100% encrypted all the time but RRDB shows it as TE or DE anyway.

If someone here does have inside info happy they are sharing here with us. Otherwise we wouldn’t know what the hell is going on! 🤣

Decryption in 10 minutes, tops!! lol

And figuring out the encrypted groups just takes time and patience, it's not that difficult. It's what makes the hobby fun.

New radio system, new radios and ABQ Ambulance is still overmodulated to the point of distortion at times....go figure. I can only assume they are not using new radios yet.

They are using the new radios. Their dispatch sounds like crap. I'm wondering if their disptachers have gain turned up too much on the headsets or if it is a console issue.

It was the same with the old system. Since it seems to be just their radios, they must be doing something to cause it.

Last time I was through ABQ (two weeks ago), BCSO traffic on the old Harris system seemed way distorted. I instantly regretted not having uploaded the latest changes to my scanner prior to the trip. All traffic on NMSP and APD talkgroups I had programmed in was buttery smooth.

Volume on some of the channels is really low though. Fluctuates low to high. Noticed it on APD Valley and APD Southeast. Is there not an auto volume level setting on the SDS units?

It's the radio users not knowing how to use them correctly or not talking into the mic correctly, same issues where I work. I have same issues on my 436, AGC does not work at all, Windows AGC does a better job.

I have been playing around with the Global Auto filters on the SDS scanner. Not a whole lot of documentation on what each setting does. But basically they are high and low pass filters and each one may or may not improve signal quality in your area. Seems to be unique to each system or frequency and maybe even unique to which part of town you are in based on local interference. I have discovered at least for me that the Wide Normal filter seems to work best on the 700 State system downtown in my area. I was getting some garble with the default normal filter and when I switched to “wide normal” it seemed to clean that up and improve. Seems to be a wide high pass filter. The “Auto filter” definitely slows down scanning as it try’s each filter setting so be aware. Curious if anyone else here has had any luck with these?

I forgot to mention that I disabled the global filter setting “off” on all of the conventional channels. (Non-trunked) and it seems to work better.
