My bet is this is a funding reason. I bet they have equipment that isn't capable of 700Mhz.
I'm guessing you're right about this being a funding issue.

The last time I paid attention to the Motorola HT a Santa Fe City parking lot attendant was using, it looked like a 10- or 15-year-old digital-capable model. I can't remember the model number, but I'd seen them in use elsewhere in digital trunking mode.

Folks, there are several new sites on the air that haven't been tracked down and identified yet.

Erik,
Is there a web site where you are going to see what sites are being added?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

I wish the NM DoIT would publicize their accomplishments but unfortunately, they do not. These new sites listed are from folks driving around and logging sites. A lot of these new sites are down in your neck of the woods. Do you have any equipment to track down these new sites?

Speaking of funding they have re enacted the subscriber fees per radio, per console, per XYZ on agencies. See how long the small agencies last before reverting back to vhf like couple have recently done.

Nope, no subscriber fees for radios or consoles still. Also no one has switched back to date, although some are still hybrid

I had a chance to listen to the new Santa Fe simulcast system yesterday.

The new system seems to mirror the Santa Fe City PD and FD transmissions coming from the Tesuque Peak repeater on the statewide DTRS.

I also heard New Mexico State Police District 1 (Santa Fe) traffic on the Santa Fe simulcast system.

So far, no traffic on the Santa Fe simulcast system from other Santa Fe city services such as garbage collection, buses, parking lots, etc.

Santa Fe sites are DTRS state owned sites on SFE's old frequencies, which the state now controls. They are new sites. They are available for all DTRS uses as any of the sites are.

The new Santa Fe simulcast is not on 800 MHz due to radios lacking 700 MHz support. The XTS 5000 series was 700 MHz-capable from the get-go, and they hit the market in 2003, over 20 years ago (now that makes me feel old)...

It's most likely just a spectrum efficiency thing. The state has a ton of sites & channels in the ABQ metro area already, consuming many frequencies, and the state has to stretch the limited number of 700 MHz frequency pairs they have across the entire state (which just happens to be huge and mountainous, making frequency re-use even more of a challenge). By grabbing Santa Fe's old 800 MHz freqs, they just saved themselves some precious 700 spectrum that can be used elsewhere. Sounds like someone made a smart move!

Dude you are ancient... I suspect you are right about the frequency usage. Someone was smart :)

Interesting. We were shown a FY24/25 with fees listed and expected (subject to change) costs for FY25.
If you're with a state agency then there is a cost (always has been). State agency folks receive a different service then Federal, tribal and local , which are 100% subsidized by the state currently (no cost). PM me if you want to learn more. If you're with a local, federal or tribal agency then there is/should be no cost currently.

I don't know of anyone leaving the state system and going back to there old system. I know only State Agencies have to pay for radios. The Doit Act is a real thing. Santa Fe is using 800mhz because the state is running out of 700 channels in large metro areas. Has nothing to do with budget. Most all city of SF radios are APX and Viking. They canned the XTS when they upgraded to there failed Moto P25 system which was also Phase 2. The XTS radios will not do Phase 2.

Now if the state would just get that VHF trunking sites online in the mountains for Toas and Red River that would be nice.

Is there an actual plan to deploy VHF P25 trunking in Northern NM, as opposed to 700 or 800? Would this be paid for by the Counties or the State?

Dona Ana Fire has gone quite today. Not hearing any of the old VHF traffic anymore. Just a bunch of encrypted TG's on the State system. Wonder how long before the Sheriff goes dark.

DSDPlus's new radio ID feature is pretty handy. We are getting a lot of simulcast traffic here from multiple districts. Based on the Radio ID, maybe 30120 is Donna Anna County FD. Hopefully this ID stuff will make it easier to ID talk groups. I did notice, though, that it's ENC. I'll take a look on the radio log to see if I can figure some more TGs out.

I would be very interested to see who or what dictates the patched and simulcast calls. A lot of patched calls here seem like rather mundane traffic.
