I will be travelling through New Mexico this weekend and am working on programming a radio. Is NMSP completely on the DTRS now or should I also program the VHF channels. Thanks in advance for any help.

Most up north is on the DTRS. South most is multicasted on both. Id have the VHF anyway as some even though they won't admit it many use it down south and part of central at least users in field prefer it in some areas. The mountain areas where they have coverage issues is where VHF is used still mainly in South. Something the few admins for it who visit this site won't admit as it wouldn't be a good selling point.

Down south listener here! NMSP is on the DTRS in Otero, Doña Ana, Chavez, and Licoln counties. I listen to them every day.

If you are wanting to mainly listen to NMSP, DTRS is probably your best bet and will be the least hassel.

Very true. Otero county is still using VHF for the whole eastern part of the county. Coverage for the rest of the county in the Tularosa Basin is pretty solid, though.

Thanks for the responses.

We travelled from Clovis to Albuquerque/Rio Rancho and then to Colorado passing through these counties in New Mexico:
Curry - no DTRS, heard NMSP on VHF
Roosevelt - no DTRS
De Baca - no DTRS
Guadalupe - first heard Tesuque Peak site as we were east of Santa Rosa on I-40
Torrance - started to hear some of the Albuquerque area sites
Bernalillo - multiple Albuquerque area sites
Sandoval- multiple Albuquerque area sites
Rio Arriba - no DTRS

Returning to Texas from Colorado we came I-25 to Raton and through Colfax and Union counties. I did not hear DTRS sites. I did hear the NMSP VHF on the freqs listed for district 2.
