I've learned from a reliable source that the dispatchers are currently using portables and "backup channels." Not exactly sure what "backup" or "channel" means. Some SO folks think that things will get better when they move into their new dispatch center on Monday August 2nd.

One deputy's opinion on digital: "They sound like they are dispatching from a diving bell at the bottom of the ocean."

While visiting family in Polk today, I set my 396T on "Search and Store" and snagged these TGs: 24330 and 43664. I found this kind of strange since 5-digit TGs are usually associated with analog systems. Did anyone else hear voice activity on these TGs?

Polk P25

On Tuesday July 27th Polk County will be switching over to the new P-25 Digital Radio System. This will affect all 75 Agencies who operate on the Polk County 800 MHz Radio System. In conjunction with the switch over Polk County will be shutting down the old Analog radio system.
Shortly after the Switch Over is complete the old Analog radio system will be turned off.

After the Switch Over:

All of the Zones and Channels Polk County has been using for the last ten years have been replicated in the new system. You will continue to operate on the same channels and in the same way you have been.
The only difference will be that you will be back to operating with Zone “A” and the sixteen channels in it as your primary zone of operation and the other zones you may occasionally need to use will be back at the top section of the zones.

You will notice a slight difference in the sound / voice quality as we are moving from an analog to a digital system.

You will initially have slightly improved coverage. Over the next few months we will be building three new tower sites which will result in a significant coverage improvement. Those sites are located in the general areas of; Mulberry, Providence and Poinciana.

Is this system encrypted?? I cant seem to get my Uniden BCD99XT to receive it...

The systems range seems to be limited at this point. I live in Tampa and can only get it at night, and then it's still spotty. Will see if those three new towers help when they come online.

After listening to this new system for the last week I have found a few new talk groups Theses is just a guess on my part except for Facilities Management it is confirmed
5020 Animal control
5025 Court House Security or Jail Transportation
5253 FACILITIES
5254 FACILITIES
5265 water

This is just a guess on my part except Facilities Management it is confirmed
Also I heard County Fire Dispatch say they can not patch the UHF med channels with the new P-25 channels

That's funny Bolt. We should get a pool going as to whether or not Polk will go back to their analog system like Miami Beach has done.

FYI Hardee Co is now up and running on the new polk system and all LEO channels are ENCRYPTED. They are currently simulcasting on the old analog, but it should be shut down within days.

Well, Miami beach moved from digital talkgroups to analog talkgroups on the same system. Polk transitioned to a brand new system. Good thought but it wasnt really the same thing, so don't count on the analog coming back.

Support is ending soon on the older systems much as we liked them, not much that can be done but transition to current technology.

$#!%@&!!!!! They only had one analog TG on the Polk system that I was aware of. I guess "all LEO channels" means just the one Hardee SO TG. This really stinks... Hardee must have some really high-level crime goin' on down there. Not.

More and more of these digital systems will have encryption. It comes from comments like I heard so and so and this and that. Don't post what you hear, don't try and post something like I heard the cops ordering lunch or getting doughnuts despite getting a ticket last week. Think before you post. It affects everyone else who wants to listen in the future.

That being said are they using DES XL OFB or AES if anyone knows?

I was wondering why no LE info was posted on the DB on the P-25 system.

well this morning on my way home from work I noticed a tower company pulling into the poinciana public works compound that has a tower in the yard. It was loaded with antenna cable and large boxes so I can only assume they are putting up the equipment for the poinciana tower site. As of now the portable coverage is very hit or miss in poinciana..hope this helps

I am still struggling getting much chatter. I heard that there were some new TAC channels being registered with the FCC. Not sure if this is true or not. I get broken chatter. I had Scanner master redo my scanner and nothing. I put up an expensive antenna with a heavy cable and still nothing. I know that we are digital know with the p25 system. When July 27th hit, I tanked. Reading your differnet post, some of you seem pretty smart on all this. Any ideas???
