Hello everyone.

I'm Mike, and I'm up on top of Beacon Hill in Seattle. I have always loved listening to scanners. Recently picked up a pro97, and am having a blast. I'm enjoying listening to everything that comes out of the scanner, which makes it hard to follow anything. I've figured out a decent way to organize all the freqs and TGs, which was really daunting at first. It was a bit of a revelation when I discovered that the TG Subbanks can be turned on or off individually.

Last week, I picked up the late night house fire over off of Corson and Warsaw, and yesterday, I listened to the entire rescue of the dude at the concrete plant. It's all very exciting, and there is so much to learn. The hobby really grabbed me, much to the chagrin of my better half. She doesn't find the radio noise very exciting at all.

I'm really interested in getting into amateur radio. I haven't the foggiest idea about any of it yet, but I found a couple of cool books, and suddenly, I have a strong desire to decorate my house with QSL cards.

Hey everyone. I have been a member for a few years. Unfortunatly I was layed off for 9 months and had to sell my pro-94 and pro-97.

Now back on the road for the past year and was looking at Rat Shacks ad today and am about to pull the trigger on a pro-164 for $149.00 or the Pro-106 for 299.00 Any thoughts?

Good to see Lowboy and his friendly attitude is still here. He is good people. He helped me with a freq list to download years back.

I am in Marysville.

Side note: Ha, i just found one on E-Bay. It's a Patrolman-6 model. (I still have mine too!)

I used to have one of those! I had a General Electric that I got for Christmas one year, which was the first one I had that had a Squelch, that covered AM/FM and VHF Hi and Lo. Then when spotted the Patrolman 6 in a RS catalog a few years later, I begged my parents to get me one of those for a Christmas present.....and they did! Of course my mom couldn't figure out why I needed another one! It was a great radio!

Still at it.

Got my ham novice license in 1958 at the age of 13 (KN7HCF).
Didn't do much with it.

Joined navy in 1967 and was a communications technician (CTM) sationed in California, Florida, Guam &
Japan. Got out of navy in 1973 and got back in to radio.. Now N7UAP. Located in Bellingham, WA.

Have been scanning for over 30 years. Started with crystal scanners. Then bought a Bearcat 210 and
then really got hooked. Have owned and still own many scanners. Was active in the old RCMA group
(WA003).

Was the 1st one to modify the PRO-2004 to do cell (sent info to Bob Grove @ Monitoring Times).

Still active on Intercept Northwest board.
Work as electronic technician (20 years) Alpha Technologies.
Enjoy monitoring about anything and am always looking for something new to pop up.

Hi gang. I'm new here but I've been scanning since the early '70's. My name's Greg and I live in the Puyallup So. Hill area of Pierce County. My first "scanner" strapped to the back of a transistor radio. I was able to pick up the Tacoma Police and fire department. I've been hooked since then. I can't remember all of the scanners I've had but I'm in the process of switching over from my old friend the Uniden BC200XLT to the Uniden BC246T. The changeover has been quite a challenge. I'm still trying to figure out how to program the darn thing! It's like trying to learn a new language but I'm determined!
I'd keep using my old "200" but I can no longer pick up the Tacoma or Puyallup police so I went for the 246T. Wish me luck!

Well I guess I'll chime in. I still have my first scanner that I've had afor about 2 years now (Pro-97) because I'm 18 and can't afford one going to college. But I really want more! I want a digital (BC398t) and some type of base so that I can stream. One of my friends got me into it when I was 15 because he had the website scannerprogrammer.com which I now own and am in the process of putting back online. I live in Olympia, Washington in thurston county and scan the local PD and Sheriff usually, and sometimes the FD. I will scan public works etc when it is really snowing or bad weather.

Hey guys,

I am located up on Capitol Hill in Seattle while I go to school - otherwise I am in Greenwood. Just getting started...I took the Technician class a weekend or two back and passed.

I have a couple Icom F4S, but I just picked up a Radio Shack HXT-420 at the swap meet in Puyallup. Hope to pick up some bigger/better stuff in the next couple months.

So far have mostly resigned myself to listening to Campus security on my Icoms (helps to know when to clear out of a party too ;) ), but will probably start to hear other stuff...

Scanning in West Seattle

Greetings... I've posted in several other forums, but never here, so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I started listening to scanners in the early 90's -- my first scanner was a pro-2006 (little did I know at the time that I was buying a classic), and quickly got hooked. I was living in Everett at the time, and spent most of my time listening to the Everett PD and State Patrol.

I have dropped in and out of the hobby, but when serial interfaces started to become standard on almost all scanners, my interest peaked and has stayed that way ever since. I'm a software developer, and my basic drive is to learn how to control whatever gadget has grabbed my interest.

My latest scanner is a BCD396T. My initial obsession was the PSR500/Pro-106, but the ready availability of the control protocol of the Uniden just drove me in that direction. I drool over the new 396XT.

Almost all of my listening is either the regional Police activity (I'm so close to the Seattle Simulcast tower that I can monitor it without an antenna) or to aircraft (BFI is just to the east). I'm really looking forward to monitoring the Blue Angels when they come back this year. It's something that I've never done, even though I've had the equipment to do it for years.

As for a listing of gear, that's in the signature of my post.

Welcome Aboard.I think that I to, am addicted to all of the newest Elt. toys. I am following in my Dads foot steps as is my son " He is 11 and tells me that he already knows everything but knows nothing about scanner or radios DARN TV but states he needs to learn" . when I was a kid it was shortwave,Ham and CB's it was the 60's my Dad was in the Navy we lived in Japan and shortwave was the only way to keep in contact with the rest of the world. I still own every radio or receiver that he or I owned dating back to the 70's.
