Don't forget locally, North and West Caldwell (and further out Bloomfield, Livingston and South Orange) as they are on ICS as well.

I know that Cedar Grove has dead spots and that is why they do not want to move to ICS. This is Cedar Grove's second assessment (at least) with this.

The Watchung Mountains and consequently hill and valley terrain do not bode well for solid communications. I don't know the likelihood or feasibility but another (simulcast) tower in the North Caldwell - Verona - Cedar Grove area may help.

I don't know but I would bet that SO, Maplewood, and Milburn (maybe even Livingston) probably have better affiliations to the Union Simulcast then they do from Site 1/WO. :(

There are more dead spots than you would think. When we were issued our APX 6000’s , they came with the longer antennas. The radio company advised to use them to make sure you can stay connected. However, as usual, many of our people have bought the short antennas and performance seems to be the same. We pretty much know where the deadspots are and maneuver accordingly.

The NJICS West Orange Simulcast includes a tower right in Livingston, on Riker Hill.

Yeah. And Site 1 is still lousy. In my experience the Riker Hill site does a better job getting the signal (West) out to Denville then it does within the Simulcast.

Roseland would seem to have proper coverage if they ever decided to move to ICS.

I fail to understand how Cedar Grove PD could have "dead spots" with sites located on tall towers located at Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange, Garret Mountain Reservation in Paterson, and Riker Hill in Livingston, along with two (2) other sites (admitedly both of which are somewhat removed from their area).

We have a dead spot in Verona that is almost within site of the Eagle Rock tower. Strange things these radio waves.

Did Verona PD ever have any dead spots on their T-Band repeater when it operated from the water tank on top of Fairway Road?

The EDACS system was terrible but not dead spot related. It just started to miss communications. Hmmm much like ICS does. Progress...

Dead spots are quite common on wide area communications systems that are not designed for maximum coverage within any specific city or town. Livingston Police department went to NJICS and discovered That inside police headquarters was a dead spot and portables were unusable. There are many other examples. Communication systems designed for specific in town city usage are designed with multiple satellite receivers throughout a specific town, for maximum in building portable coverage, And the transmitter or transmitters are located at maximum coverage locations within the town boundaries. This is not the case with the NJICS in most areas.

Portables on the Bergen County Public Safety Trunked System (UHF) do not work inside of Ridgewood PD HQ.

The combined Ridgewood & Glen Rock Police/Fire/EMS VHF system has approximately 15 satellite receivers associated with it.

Something has changed in Western Monmouth/Southern Middlesex area for the Troop C 800 system. Pro-197 & 106 went deaf last week, 4-5 bar signal but no control channel. Put the attenuator on, 3-4 bars and a solid Control Channel on 860.7125, 55-99% decode.
Still have solid receive on Mercer County IPSRS with no Att.
Guessing a new/upgraded system/tower nearby causing LSM.
No time for further research, everything getting packed to get outta Joisey in a week.

LSM is a type of modulation specific to P25 systems, not some sort of condition, and it doesn't apply to a 3600 SmartZone system.

It's very likely a new cell site popped up in your area. Since those work on 700/800mhz much like public safety, it makes sense that using the attenuator weakens the interfering signal enough that troop C still comes in and since Mercer Co is on the 500mhz T Band it is not really affected by this new interference.
