• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I did a road test recording to my QT-80 from my QT40 in my jeep. It seems I'm only able to tx about 2 miles. I tried one trip with the rf gain at max and the squelch just above the noise. The 2nd trip I turned the squelch all of the way up and tried the radio power at setting 2 and setting 15. It really didn't seem to make much of a difference either way. I was using channel 14, as it seemed the quietest. After Thanksgiving I will try driving my truck on the same route. If I have more time, I want to try using lsb from my jeep to my truck, and then vice versa. The route has a lot of houses along the way, and relatively flat.

if I remember you have a tail light CB mount and a 4 foot Firestick on the jeep? ..
I'm surprised you could even get the 2 miles...
jeeps are really terrible and as I've said a million times.. I've never had luck with any Firestick.
every firestick I've worked on gives me a GREAT SWR.... very easy to get a great SWR with the FIRESTICK... but they never work... at least for me.
I also don't think the Jeep will receive very well, so doing the opposite test may not work too well either.... but it should be fun and interesting.
I was going to finish my friends Jeep this week but because of Thanksgiving school is getting out at noon all week, so my friend has to be home most of the day.... so hopefully the first week of December and I'll do a video and range test of his Jeep... I may not get anymore range than you, your QT-40 has a lot more power than the CS-47... but I'm going to try every trick in the book... in fact the Jeep exhaust grounding bracket came today.

Since I mostly use gmrs on the trails, I don't think I'm going to fret over it much. I have a db20-g gmrs radio in my jeep also, and a couple of cheap handhelds for others who don't have comms in their rigs. Like I said, I will be testing the qt80 after Thanksgiving and trying out lsb in qt40 with the qt80.

If I was just using your Jeep for trail riding and have Gmrs radios already installed why would you need a CB radio?

I know huh? Mostly just because. If I ever drive further than my local trails, I want the extra comms.

Some of the guys on my tj forum have em stacked on top of each other. Some have all 3, ham, cb, and gmrs. Since most have moved to gmrs, most have been removing their cb's.

I had a 2m and Cb stacked in my old work truck before it bit the dust years back I didn't use the Cb radio much on the 23 mile commute to work in the morning. Because of how early I left for work I saw very few vehicles. Now for the trip home was another story! There were several base stations spewing out hate and discontent in the town I work near. So I did not turn it on for the ride home. So In the work car that I have had for the past 5 years there are no radios.

I got a call from one of my 4wheeling buddies today that needed some help with a tow. On my way to meet him, I turned the power up all the way on lsb 38 and made a contact up in Northern Idaho. After I got him taken care of and headed home, I made another contact in Washington State. I was shouting out to Massachusetts @niceguy71 but didn't hear anything. Pretty cool when you can break through all of the noise.
