This is NOT a good idea. sdrsharp needs write access to the directory it is in
Well ... yes and no. You can copy the EXE and DLLs to a folder under "Program Files (x86)" but you should also create a shortcut that specifies a working folder that isn't under "Program Files" and put all the data files (and possibly plugins) into this working folder.

But ... this won't give you an "SDR#" start menu so - meh - why bother. The most you can get is a taskbar or desktop shortcut.

For simplicity, I unzip to the Downloads folder and create a desktop shortcut.

I tried that. It didn't work for me starting a new folder in Programs. It's difficult to write to a directory in Programs since they are read only. I had to unzip to a directory not in Programs first.

I'll try that. Going to Desktop or Taskbar would be quicker.
But my way. keeping the directory folder in Downloads, DOES work for me.

Sorry for the lack of replies lately. Can anyone give an exact "step-by-step", from start to finish, on how to install the NESDR SMart v5? Otherwise, please respond as soon as possible if there are any other questions, suggestions, or comments. Thank you.

Hello again, blazerbobcat. Sorry you are still having trouble.

As dave3825 said, I did give you "step-by-step" earlier starting on page 1 of this thread. You have to login to see my screenshot images full-sized.

I am willing to give you a more detailed tutorial, but I will need to see some screenshots from your computer to make sure you understand each step as we go through it again together..

Do you know how to make screenshots and add them to a post? If not, I can show you how to do that first. With my computer, I press the "prt sc" function key and Paste into Paint. I then save the image as a jpg. Then I crop the image and attach it to my post.

I am using an HP laptop with Windows 10; what are you using?

Please download a copy of VLC Media Player in case I want to show you a short video.

Tell me about your computer. What operating system does it use, Windows 10?

You will need to learn how to make a screenshot so that you can show me how you are doing. If I can't teach you how to make and post a screenshot, you will have to find a friend to teach you.

This is a screenshot:

I didn't use a camera to take a picture of my computer screen, I just pressed the prt scr key at the top row of my keyboard, opened Paint, and pasted it into Paint.

v1920paste into Paint_1.jpg

Do you think you can show me that you have learned how to do that?

Widows snipping tool.
Take screenshot.
Copy screenshot.
Paste right into post.
That is correct. Using the snipping tool is another way to capture the screen image before pasting it directly into a post. I prefer to use the prt sc function key and paste it into Paint when I want to save the image and crop it or add an arrow or notation to the image. There are several Snipping Tools. This is the older one:

This the newer Snipping Tool:

v1920newSnippingToolOptions.jpg

I like to add a saved image from Paint this way:

You still haven't answered my previous question:

What operating system are you using for your computer, Windows 10?
