i never got good results with antennas lower than the highest point on the vehicle. height is might. It's a used radio and I switched to a 4' tunable Firestik with a spring and quick disconnect, so the antenna is now 2'+ above the roof of the jeep. The swr's show 1.1:1. I do know that it was checked over to make sure that everything works as it should.
The beauty of FS is that they are top-loaded, however.i never got good results with antennas lower than the highest point on the vehicle. height is might.
even with top causes radical vswr and the lower the worse
I'm glad that you were able to get your radios working the way you wanted. If I was in the market for a mobile radio I would get the QT40 also. I like the old school look of a mobile radio but with all the new features.I'm very happy, it seems I got both my vehicles cb's straighten out.
I don't have a back seat. The little radio on the driver's said does not interfere with folding the seat forward. The passenger side yes it does. The jeep is for off-roading, not family trips.Davidbt you have a radio on both sides of the console? so how do you slide the seat up to get into the back seat???
you must have to remove a radio every time someone wants to get into or out of the back seat?
I beg to differ. First and foremost, the meter is fine, and you shouldn't be trying to look at it while driving anyway. As for the controls, QT40/Ares2 wins hands down. Better yet are the 5555/HS4/ss6900v. I bought a used 5555n2 (QT60) to play with, and it's my least favorite of these new radios. The QT60/5555n2's controls suck. When switching bands, rather than turn a knob you have to hit the band button like 11 times to get back to band D. Annoying. Same when switching modes. Multiple button presses. Annoying. Also the freq counter doesn't adjust when you slide the clarifier. Annoying. It's the least user friendly of these radios IMHO.The QT40 is harder to use than the QT60 besides having a worthless S-meter.
So far, that's how I feel about the QT80 that I put in my truck, though I haven't spent a lot of time with either radio. @slowmover has said before though, set it and forget it. It does seem to me that the QT40 is easier to adjust, and could be done on the fly if needed.I beg to differ. they shrink auto size and squeeze radios out.I like the old school look as well. I also like that there are switches and buttons for most things. But I could never fit something like that in my Subaru. Unfortunately, I have to run remote mount radios in it and there are precious few these days.
Such as? Since you don't own a QT40 I'd like to hear how it's soooo menu driven. Other than Rodger beep on/off everything else is on the knobs and switches. You're lack of owning and using one makes your statements bunk.Too much “into the menu” on QT40 that’s handled by front panel controls (by touch) on QT60
