Just ordered another set of the Panasonic Eneloop Pro's from Target.com The 4 pack is on sale for $19.99 and free shipping. I am not going to put them in my cycle of rechargeables until actually need them.

What kind of charger do you use with these?
One other question, do you know if the white ones are as good as the black pro version? Would they work too, with scanners?

Thanks!

I use this charger. look around and it can be usually found cheaper.

MH-C9000 - Maha Energy

The white ones are good, I use them also There is a little difference between the regular Eneloop and the Pro. The regular don't last quite as long per charge, about 2 hours less or so, however they can be recharged over 2000 times. The Pro's last longer per charge but only have around 500 recharges, so there is a little trade off between the 2 types.

I use V-scanners as a backup system. I have a "active" v-scanner for scanning/listening. I save a copy to a "backup" V-scanner. To make changes, I download the "active" from the radio/s into a third "work in progress" V-scanner, and when happy, copy to the "backup" and the "active". Then upload the new "active" to the radio/s. I believe I have a 4th V-scanner that I haven't looked at for a long time that contains original info/data that was in the scanner/s when new. I only keep the "active" in the radio/s. In other words, I never figured out what the V-scanners were really for, lol.

Just got a used WS1080 and I'm blown away with this radio. I did a side by side comparison with a 436HP in the Portland, OR metro area and on the 800MHz Type II analog systems here the x36HP radios don't decode the beginning of the transmissions on the talkgroups so I miss short one or two word transmissions while the WS1080 is flawless. Also, my 536HP got severely overloaded on the new Oregon State Radio Project P25 Phase II system with only one site scanning with only one talkgroup active. The keys on the keypad would not work while the scanner was decoding Phase II audio. I had to wait for transmissions to stop in order to use the keypad but the WS1080 was again flawless! I've always been a uniden fan but I can't wait to get a WS1095 when it comes out and sell off my X36HP radios.

The WS1080 is a handheld? It outperformed both 436and 536?

Your issue with your Uniden is likely a card issue. If you are using the default card that comes with it .. "it sucks". But a new memory card .. faster the better (To a point. Class 10 or better should be fine) and I think you will find that the button issues will go away. It is well documented.

But .. the Whistler 1080 / PSR800 scanners are far superior to the Unidens. My personal opinion but that is what is happening .. people are learning that and are migrating. Myself .. dumping my Uniden 436HP, which has been delegated to Recall recording duty to catch things I missed. Other than that .. it just sucks.

So the WS1080 will handle P25 phase 2? I have a GRE500 handheld and the sound quality on the digital trunk is very good but it does not handle P25 phase 2. Is the WS1080 on par with a GRE? I know there probably one in the same.

The WS1080 is the Whistler version of the GRE-800.

Is the Radio Shack PRO-668 exactly the same as the WS1080? If yes, where do I go for the firmware updates? Whistler or RS? The reason I ask is the RS units are cheaper than the WS1080. Generally I prefer the WS1080 but there is a noticeable savings with RS.

You'll have to ask that on the Radio Shack forum - since Radio Shack makes their own scanners unlike Whistler.
