Thank you very much guys. RR... is there anyway that we can have consistency here? I would like to be able to see members signatures. I like being able to see the quotes, quips, comments and equipment people use. I would also like to have my signature show at the end of my posts with consistency regardless of the device being used to read it. I look forward to your solution. Bob.

The mobile version of the forums is minimalist by design. You will not see any signatures, as well as other info that you will see on the desktop version such as the user's join date, number of messages (post count), location, etc.

If all of that extracurricular stuff were to show up in the mobile version, you'd be scrolling forever. Less is more. ;)

Note that members also have the ability on an individual basis to hide everyone's signatures by disabling the Show people's signatures with their messages option in their preferences.

I kind of assumed that I wasn't seeing signatures because I was using a smartphone but then I started to see some peoples signatures using the smartphone so that's why I was asking. I have a desktop but don't use it very much anymore. I'm going to take a look at the site using the desktop and check that out. Thanks.

Two things come to mind if you're seeing signatures on your phone:

  1. Are you sure it's a true signature that you're seeing? Some members have been known to copy/paste a "signature" at the end of every post they make, but are not actually using the signature feature. It looks like a signature, but is actually just additional text within the body of the post itself.

  2. Is your mobile browser switching to the desktop style at any point? Most mobile browsers are capable of requesting/forcing the desktop version of a site to show, rather than the mobile version. In Firefox, for example, there is an option to "Request desktop site". If I browse these forums with that option enabled, I get the full desktop style, not the mobile style (including signatures being displayed).

Yep I was wondering the same thing since I saw so few posts with what appears to be a signature. It could be pasted in.

I don't use Firefox I use the default Samsung browser. When I get time today I will go on the desktop and take a look how things look there.

I don't think my browser automatically switches to desktop and mobile modes but I do believe I have the option to manually choose desktop mode. Thanks.

Okay so it would appear if you are using a desktop or laptop you see the signature. I also noticed the poster before you quoted me and showed my post and it had my personal information showing also. That doesn't show for me on my cell phone on any member. With the cell phone I have seen signatures on a few people but most don't have it. Interesting. Thanks guys.

Using iPhone here......

When I view your post with my phone n the portrait orientation your signature is not there. When I rotate the phone to the landscape view, the signature appears.

Thank you fxdscon, that certainly makes sense. I am now using the desktop version on my smartphone.

Xenforo is modern in design in that there isn't a mobile and desktop view. It all depends on the screen size you are viewing it on. If you are on a desktop, and you make your browser window smaller you will see the formatting change as it gets smaller until it ultimately looks like a mobile screen.

Trent, the sig is there. Don’t worry. It doesn’t show on my phone, presumably because XF is saving screen real estate, but I’m on my iPad right now and I see your sig and the sig of others who have one setup.

I just checked on my Android phone that choosing the desktop site will force the resolution to display at a point where signatures show up on my phone in portrait.

Question for the Admins--in the News & Events section of the forums--i made 2 posts at 12:09 & 12:35am --in the old forums it would post as a new post now i cant even find it posted in new posts tab / whats new tab isnt this supposed to post on the main pages as listed as a new post

this seems to be i would say somewhat important to the community on FCC Notifications which is buried in the tavern section where no one can find it

I Submitted twice a FCC Notification on Cores in Community News to be approved on the 3 & the 16th of dec and it never was posted--I also emailed the support desk with no answer back----Should i Repost it Somewhere else or again in community news

Can you Plz take a look into this ---Thanx

Maybe a Suggestion how about opening a new tab (Forum Section) for fcc stuff -(Enforcements) / (Notifications) / (FCC-ID Registrations) on new items coming about

Something like this has been long overdue--Now you have a new look now is the time to expand the forums and make more sections

Why are you making changes to the web site ? If it's not broke, why fix it ? I like it just the way it is.

It was very much so broken - see these discussions about all the issues the previous forum was having:

https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/thread-constantly-reloading.379939/

https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/bad-threads.379157/

https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/corrupted-thread.378592/

https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/cant-see-all-of-posts.376545/

https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/forum-images-max-width.369446/

If you were to open the browser dev tools on the old forums, there were many errors "under the hood." This update appears to have addressed nearly every issue, so I'll again extend a big "thank you" to the RR team!

As someone else has already explained, it was broken.

As well, the old software was outdated and not easily upgraded. There were many features members wanted that couldn't be added.

We've now got a Likes system which should cut down on the +1 posts, the ability to restrict images to a size that doesn't blow up a thread, the ability to add a better Classifieds system and other under the hood improvements.

Tavern posts do not show up as New Posts.

Keep in mind that not all FCC Notifications are radio related and a lot deal with administrative issues. If an FCC Notification is radio related and it's of interest to the entire RadioReference Community, it can go into the News and Announcements forum. Other possible forums would be Industry Discussion or Amateur Radio.

As far as adding additional forums, unless there's a need for them, I don't see any reason to add them just because of new forums software. Sorry.

Is there a way to turn off user avatars? Also, I've "unchecked" permission to display my online status, but it looks like it's still showing me online.
