I have an idea what is taking so long---the radio looks like a VX3 on steroids, and is a cross between a VX7 and VX6. The FCC is playing with all the new whiz bang features of the radio and has been lost in the ham radio twilight zone:))

Who is going to find justification to upgrade from the VX-7R to 8R?

The APRS functionality alone sounds awesome if it will be able to send/receive text tags. Bluetooth sounds nice, but I don't like VOX as it can come on at unwanted moments.

A new radio at another $300 for BT and APRS seems pricey. Not to mention I liked the look/feel of the 7R more then the 8R. 8R looks like it's made for in Japan. Going to look like a geek wearing that (if you can look any geekier.)

I'm not sure I'll buy. Maybe the 9R if they add even more functionality... and if it doesn't look like the 8R.

I'll buy one and I have a VX-7 and no need for bluetooth. Most things I buy have no justification, just ask my wife.

Lets See It!

Jon!
There is NO justification needed! Its either you want it or you dont! I am not rushing to get it. I just want to see what the final product looks like with ALL the features it has, and the final price tag. The VX7R is great but not the best of the best either. I have had issues with it. Either way, I hate seeing a product shoved in your face then being made to wait forever to see it live. I like to make up my mind either way. I either want it or I dont. So far, Im not sure. We'll see!

I guess I'm leaning towards DONT then at this point. Cool radio of course, but perhaps I'm just defending my first radio to ever own, the 7R.

If it has some major features that aren't leaked yet, maybe. But if I have to be sold heavy on the features then I probably don't need to buy it anyway.

Can't say for sure. I do kinda like it being small, but then again I like the feel of the larger 7R too.

The demo at hamcom seemed LIGHT. Seems like it'll be a cool radio regardless.

Why so small?

I agree with you on the size thing Jon! I am a Big guy, and my bear paws as my wife calls them, are not meant for these litttle tiny things. I dont see what the big deal is anyway with making the radios super small. The Ft-60, VX-7 are just right. I dont like the looks either. It looks ready for the battle zone but thats about it! Again, I'll have to see one in person to really judge it. We'll see!

I'll have a view of the the new VX-8R, and I'll see if I prefer the vx7 or the vx8.
I'm thinkin if a new cover would be able to mount. I'll spend with the vx8 about 500€. If I can pay a new cover, I sign now. I wanna fact up a Yaesu to have a tough equip with a good firmware, think that I can't have with Icom or Kenwood. In the way, Icom n Kenwood are getting together to win Yaesu ...'ts mad...

So, when the vx8 will be able here, I'll go to my default dealer and I'll see if I like more vx8 or I fact up the vx7, althrough the new.

...but if I open the vx8 I lose the warranty... :( So in this case this would do the dealer technic...
if I have a good firmware, I don't have a tough construction, n if I have a rugged, tough, resistant construction, the firmware's not that good I would like.

What would you do?

All way, if I buy the vx7, I'll open it to integer the Icom UT-118...

:(,
Stickair.
