No I meant upgrade to a p25 system using the frequencies they already had...

Are you sure about the 30$ annually? I was informed it was much more by a very reliable source.

NJICS Scanning Setup BCD436HP

I just purchased a Uniden BCD436HP scanner. Which sites should I be monitoring and settings should I be using for optimal listening of the Union County agencies that are on the NJICS system.

Thank you, I am just south of you in Northern Middlesex County, are there any other settings on the scanner that I should be changing for monitoring the NJICS system? Also, is it better to just monitor the simulcast sites? I am definitely having issues picking up some of the agencies.

I'm 100% sure about the $30 annually.

And union county is using their frequencies. They rolled the 700MHz and the existing 800MHz frequencies into the system.

Oh so from what you are saying is that you don't know about Union County directly? The one who foots the bill from one of the local municipalities informed me that it was the $200 either annually or monthly... I can't remember...

It is possible that I can be wrong and its possible it can be different.

There's alot of misinformation on this site and I always get caught up in arguing with the ones who spread it...

In this instance I just respectfully have to half believe you on this matter.

Union County has a master agreement with the State. They pay $30 per radio annually. Any Union County town that signs on through the Union County agreement pays the same rate ($30 per radio annually). It is listed in Union County Resolution 2013-157.

A town from outside Union County may be paying more and I don't know what that rate would be. Oh, also, if a Union county town wants "statewide" coverage instead of just the northern part of the state it would cost $265 per radio annually, but no one in Union County has done that (towns or the county itself)

Hope that helps. Don't worry, no arguing. Just trying to help get the facts out there as well. It really is a cost effective solution long term.

Ohhh I see. Now that makes sense! Thank you! Cost effective or not I still don't trust it... Trunking systems are just prone to failure, especially a statewide one with so many users... I've see the controller before and holy crap is there alot of stuff that goes on...
Anyway, this was very informative. I guess they must've goten that info about the statewide coverage mixed up. Thank you!

Trunking systems may fail, but it's not always the case. Plus most if not all departments still have their older VHF/UHF systems when and if the trunked system ever has to go into a Failsoft mode.

And the radios in Union County are either purchased by the County for the municipality, or paid for via grants. Elizabeth may have been an exception, but I'm not positive.

The county has not purchased radios for any municipality on the system. They purchased radios to replace the EDACS hotline stations at each HQ, but not Portables or mobiles. Every town finds their own funding source (grant or otherwise).

Never said they purchased mobiles or portables. I said radios, which includes the hotline radios. So, you're really echoing what I just said.....

Not echoing. Clarifying. Your statement made it sound as though everyone got free radios (except Elizabeth). mobiles and portables are in fact radios.

I haven't posted in like 7 years but I am expecting to get my 436HP on Wednesday. I have been reading this and other forums and looking at youtube to familiarize myself with the scanner and sentinel. I want to know if I am on right track. I created a Union County Favorites List in Sentinel. In that list I have all Union County Municipalities conventional and trunked (like Union Twp EDACS) I also added NJICS but marked all sites Avoid except union county frequencies and the union county and west orange simulcast. I assigned it a FLQK 0. When scanner comes if I upload that to the scanner I should be OK???

Assign that a FL QK of 1 instead of 0 to avoid confusion, and then turn off reception of the full database. You can also download my FL's from the link in my signature (unzip them first!).

My 'North Jersey' FL has just about everything you might need, and it's always good to see alternate ways to set up the 436's memory...

The County Mutual Aid talkgroup was coming over the Hunterdon site yesterday (Phase 1 only).

If this was around 10/10:30pm, there was a working fire in Roselle Park and mutual aid was called upon.
