Never saw that "original post". I received my information directly from a source within law enforcement. 🙄

So when the cutover happens, does that mean expanded capacity on NJICS by integrating the 800mhz frequencies?

Kind of, sort of. The NJSP Simulcasts are essentially already NJICS Sites 1-010 (1-A), 1-011 (1-B), and 1-012 (1-C), but will be integrated into the NJICS. @GTR8000 can explain it better than I ever could and I'm sure I'm describing it wrong.

A number of 800 MHz frequencies have already been migrated from the SmartZone system to the ASTRO 25 system. For example, from the SZ North cell, the new Passaic cell got 856.4625, 856.9625, and 857.4625 while the Pluckemin ASR got 851.5625 and 852.2375. So right there are 5 of the original 12 channels of the SZ North cell reallocated to the NJICS.

It's unlikely that the SmartZone sites will exist as they currently do once that system is shut down. The IR sites of that system are already being shut down, and you're not going to see three large simulcast cells on the NJICS going forward. Instead more 800 MHz frequencies will likely be doled out to specific cells and sites to increase capacity, however also keep in mind that the NJICS is TDMA capable, and so once the SZ system is shut down, all of the talkgroups that currently operate in FDMA mode like the NJSP will operate more efficiently when they can start using TDMA.

Btw the SmartZone sites are not part of the NJICS core, however they are visible to the core via the SmartX site converters, which is why sites 10, 11, and 12 do not exist on the NJICS...those Site IDs already exist on the SZ system, and so they are left vacant on the ASTRO 25 system. Once the SZ system is shut down, those Site IDs can be used on NJICS if they want to create them on that zone controller.

Thanks GTR. Knew I was describing it wrong.

I was in the area of Washington Boro (Warren County) recently, and it appears that the Montana Mountain IR 800 MHz site is no longer active. I did a band scan of the 851-861 MHz range, and no control channels were on the air for that site. Stockton, West Trenton were still active. Can anyone up in that area confirm the Montana Mtn. site is off the air before a submission is made?

Thanks for that report, I enjoyed listening this summer to 10 Comm, I think the system's going to be quickly shut down, I had heard originally late 2022, you know, but...

A death by a thousand cuts.

The Montana Mountain site is a very directional site, and you pretty much need to be in the south west path to receive it. I don't believe I was able to get it east of Broadway.

My usual gentle reminder to submit these findings when appropriate, otherwise they will never make it to the RRDB.

Oh, nevermind...apparently OTA now means "on the air" 🤦‍♂️

Anyone notice Troop B North simulcast channels 860.4625 and 851.5625 channels both stuck on the air? Beeping or chirping a single 1000 hz tone every 10 seconds for some time now.
