If you were in my shoes you would understand. Complicated, you know. 🤣

On these State Police Patrolled Roads those that been monitoring for years know there are numerous ways around this without monitoring the NJSP. Sad to lose them to E, Seeya.

It's getting to the point that news of agencies going E is as shocking as a headline proclaiming "Sun rises in the east today, will set in the west!!!"

I listened to the NJSP on and off for at least 20 years. It was the first agency I programmed into my first trunking scanner, a BC-780XLT. Most of the comms were routine traffic stops. After a while, it was easy to lose interest. Hate to see them go E, but speaking for myself, I will not miss listening to them. Maritime and civ / mil air is where it's at these days for me.

Curious about other, more interesting ways to monitor what's going on in Jersey than SP transmissions. I live on the border with Sussex County so in Jersey frequently.

I agree that the NJSP dispatches can be a bit boring compared to my local NY State Police dispatch. Still hate that we may eventually lose them.

Oh no...... this is something that I never wanted for NJSP because I listen to them all the time on the Turnpike 3-4x a week for 3 hours a day to/from work. It has helped me so many times with accidents, traffic, etc. When they go full E I will have to sell my Unication as I will have no use for it. I'm extremely sad about this right now

Edit: I would assume that for the Turnpike patrol it would be a while since the troopers always communicate with Ops for tows and accident response. If not and they want to encrypt sooner they would just have the dispatcher reach out to Ops.

Different ways on the NJSP Patrol Routes, Monitor, Local and County agencies along the Roadways, Fire, EMS etc etc many are not E
and still will give you an idea what's going on.
Yes, this would work. It will just take more creativity / homework, and programming/scanning more agencies, depending on the area(s) you are interested in. There are plenty of websites/apps for tracking traffic incidents, and NJ 101.5's excellent traffic reports.;) Obviously, not the "one-stop shopping" afforded by monitoring the NJSP

The ops radio would just have the encryption key in it…. It’s easy

Turnpike/Parkway Operations monitor (2) separate radio systems. They monitor / transmit on the NJSP system (which will have to get E) as well as the NJTA radio system (which will stay in the clear).

Your best bet would be to monitor the NJTA system New Jersey Turnpike Authority Trunking System, Statewide, New Jersey

edit: In basic terms, Operations dispatchers have 2 consoles on their desk NJSP & NJTA

This is a significant undertaking to implement especially so if hardware based.
Not only to implement but to maintain if kept to highest and best standards.

What was the likely driving force for E, perhaps the most simple answer is the most likely answer? Following federal guidelines perhaps?

These "guidelines" are procedures for implementing encryption. There is no "mandate" or "rule" requiring encryption, IE; the "encryption guidelines" are not the "driving force" as you claim.
