To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I do not think Kenwood will discontinue the VHF or UHF 100 watt 90 series until a replacement NX5000 series 100 watt is made available. It sucks having to install a separate 100 watt PA. Just sayin'

The TK-5710/5810 fill the role of 100 watt VHF and UHF radios right now.
The TK-x90 were analog only, so the market for the was quickly disappearing. The TK-5x10 do P25 and analog, and most public safety agencies are buying those.

I have a "roadmap" from a year or so ago that shows a HHCH sometime in 2017, so it seems they listened.

I haven't seen a photo of it, only a mention of an HHCH on the NX-5x00 mobiles. Release date mid 2017.

Looks like that might be it. Hopefully we'll see something at IWCE. Jonesing for my annual Vegas fix.

Added in edit:
Looks like I need to go surfing the FCC OET page to see whats been submitted.

I am pretty sure it is it.

Constantly searching for Kenwood to bring their DMR radios to the US is the only reason I found it lol.

Connector for front attachment looks strange, ugly and unique. Or there is usual RJ-45 under the metal body?

It most likely will be provided with a connection box that will accept that metal plug. In the photos I see a cable end that looks like it would connect onto a remote head kit faceplate, so that is how it will connect to the RF deck. This is how a previous Hand-held head, the KCH-16 hooked up. It had a KRK-11 interface box it utilized.

HOWEVER... The model pictured above (KCH-21H if I can read the label correctly) seems to have a single color LCD screen, and not the full-color style of the NX-5000 series, so I'm not sure this is destined for the 5000's... Maybe for the NX-x00 series since those are not color? If it was a full-color LCD, it would look black when turned off, not grayish-silver as it appears in the photos.

You are aware they have a DMR portable and DMR mobile available in the US now, right?

If you are referring to the overseas models, yeah, that would be nice. They've got some interesting products out there in the rest of the world.

FYI:

A lot of NX-5000 portable accessories are on 2-months backorder. Like new smart individual chargers, KRA-27M3 antennas.

Portables was on B/O for a long time, DMR options was also, but now accessories.

Platform is not so new already, almost 2 years old. What the problem with supplies?

Version 2.10 is now out for NX-5000 series.

I do not have the details on the fixes at this time. I just got the files downloaded and updating my pc's.

Must have KPG-D1_K 2.10 for this firmware update!

So I forgot already. Can you program a P25 Phase II trunking system for monitoring only without needing a system key?

No.
*Trunking menus require a SKF for access and ASK files needed for the advance portions.

P25 Convention is Phase 1 only standard CAI. Phase 2 is only a trunking protocol. (with this brand)
I have heard there are other radios out there that "COULD" do it, but not these.

Scanning and Cloning?

I come from the Motherola family and I am now working with Kenwoods which I really like but I have a few questions. I have a fully licensed dealer copy of D1N, I have a NX5700 and I have all the parts to add a NX5800 to make a dual deck with a Basic control head. I have received my NX5800 radio and I understand and have them successfully working with each other and the basic head. So one of my questions is it possible to set up scan so that it will scan across both radios, I have an 790/890 set up and I know it is different but I have a couple of counties that have a mix of VHF/UHF and it scans both but I have not been able to figure out how do do that with this 5000 set up. Second question is I have received a NX5300 now also is there any way to clone or import my programming from my 5800 into the 5300 so I do not have to retype many zones all over again?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Scan, you have to engage via each deck.
Import, not totally like I'd hope for. You can change the product info from 5800 to 5300, just make sure the right split. You will get several messages, but it will keep most of you data in place zone wise. (I use the channel table format)
You can't keep the data the same switching from personality table to channel, or vise versa. New code plug.
Version 2.10 still only two digital modes only... Not happy about that.

Couple more questions

Thanks Evans for the helpful advice it really saved me some time!! OK So I have them both connected and up and running, I see what your saying about making each one scan but only the selected radio's audio is routed to the speaker in the head, If I connect a speaker to each deck will I then be able to hear if traffic comes across the unselected deck? Also I want to ignition sense with a time out, do I program the "A" deck which is master only and connect only it's Yellow lead of do I have to connect both?

Thanks!!
