• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Thanks Evans for the helpful advice it really saved me some time!! OK So I have them both connected and up and running, I see what your saying about making each one scan but only the selected radio's audio is routed to the speaker in the head, If I connect a speaker to each deck will I then be able to hear if traffic comes across the unselected deck? Also I want to ignition sense with a time out, do I program the "A" deck which is master only and connect only it's Yellow lead of do I have to connect both?

Thanks!!
Ignition sense just A deck, correct.

Two speakers on each deck, yes.
You can tell how low you want the unselect in 3 levels.. set the speaker to external I think, but I recall it can be set to both in and out.

Guys, who can explain differencies between KAS-12 and KAS-12DU? Second one has bigger installer and contains DB suffix. I can suppose that it includes built-in database server, but not sure.

Has anyone experienced the issue where the date / time is back to factory when using a GPS antenna connected? I'm not 100% sure this is the cause, but I noticed that when I seutp the 2nd Deck that I've lost my Date / Time on Deck A. I can't figure out why it's showing 00:00 and 1/1/XXXX Now all my recordings are showing 00:00 --/--/-- and it's kinda useless. I did notice that Deck B is showing the proper timestamp when I switch the display to Deck B.

Does the GPS interface with the deck, or the head? If so, is the GPS connected to deck B or A?

Hello Everyone!!

I am looking to purchase a NX-5700/5800 with the enhanced, single control head in the next few weeks. I am a big Motorola guy and have been for all my life. What has finally pushed me over the edge to Kenwood is the ability to have multiple platforms in on chassis. For example, I am looking to have P25 in my NX-5700 chassis and P25 & DMR in my NX-5800 Chassis. To do this with Motorola, I would need to have several separate radios and spend well over $10K.

My question that I have, and I have ready through this entire forum is this..... I have several MotoTrbo DMR systems up and need to have access to them as well as to P25 channels and analog channels. Can I do all of this in one chassis and what features of the MotoTrbo from Motorola will I be able to get in the Kenwood? Will I be able to see ID's and so forth?

I'm wondering if someone can elaborate in it for me a little more in depth on the DMR/MotoTrbo side.

Thanks,
Nick

You'll be able to see the ID/Name as long as you program the name that is assigned to each ID. Boot time is amazing. MUCH faster than the XPR5550. Pretty much the only thing that the Kenwood won't do is roaming and Motorola trunking (Connect+, Capacity+, etc). I do miss the roaming feature, but I don't travel much, so I can live with that.

I have my single chassis NX-5800 set up for analog, P25 and DMR. It does all three perfectly.

NX5K is pretty good vs Moto, but there is no BP/EP and ADP. Also, sound in P25 noticeably differs from Moto and some of your friends might not be recognizable at the beginning of usage.

Is there any compatibility with the Mototrbo gen2 radios that have the built in AES?

It must work, because Kenwood's AES-256 module is FIPS certified and keyloaded by Motorola KVL. But Motorola changed AES-256 since 2.4 TRBO release. So, you must check compatibility with old and new FW. One of them will not work.

"BP/EP", what is that? As for encryption, none of the systems I am running have active encryption.

I'm planning to replace my moto gear in next week or two and have read this thread with great interest. My confusion is software. My dealer said good luck with moving software from one computer to another. He's out of town for awhile so in my impatience I'm asking here. What is the deal with KPG-D1(NK)? My moto software is on several computers but only my radio laptop has entitlements loaded. I can creates code plugs on any of them but only the laptop can shoot the radio (well, with entitlements anyway). So what's the workflow with Kenwood? Can I unauthorize software on one computer and then authorize on another? Is the process easy and unlimited? Is the software entirely locked without authorization or only the shoot radio part? Desired is to create plugs on desktop with large monitors instead of tiny laptop screen and then load radios with laptop in the field. The term authorization may be incorrect, whatever Kenwood calls activation.
Hopefully someone on thread sees where I'm headed and Give me a best practices. Multiple licenses is not necessarily a deal breaker but I will only have 4 or 5 radios.

The software won't even run unless you buy a license, so if you just want to edit on one and program with another computer, then you need to buy two licenses.

Ok. Unnecessarily cruel but now I know. What about moving license to a different computer? If you replace pc do you lose license or can you migrate ? I'm having a hard time understanding their motivation.

The software licenses can be migrated to another PC, but you have to work with Kenwood to do it.

Yeah, it's a pain in the butt, I agree.
But, with so much radio software being uploaded to the web, they do lose money on it.

Personally, I think it's a bit extreme. Being able to have it on a laptop and a desktop is something I prefer at work. Maybe some day they'll loosen up the restriction.

Even if you buy two licenses to use on a laptop and a desktop, it's still cheaper than Motorola. Granted, you don't have unlimited install, but at $115, it is not bad. At least it isn't $2500 for each install, like Harris.

Ok, I get the basic idea. Adobe and others have automated affiliations so you do you own switching. In fact your cellphone company lets you switch phones through web. From my experience with Kenwood analog radios I realized programming software was not their strong suit.
Can't believe Motorola is less of an *** than Kenwood on anything!
Oh, how hard/expensive to REMOVE an advanced system key from Kenwood? $400 on my apex!

I have been able to move my license back and forth between PC's, provided that I can deactiviate the license on the uninstall computer.
I did have a catastrophic failure with a laptop and had to call Kenwood since I couldn't deactivate that one.
