• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Well seems that setting that timer to off also made it so IDs stay on the screen, and that the radio won’t scan to other channels until I turn scan off and on again, or change to another channel.

Then change the reset timer to ten or fifteen seconds or something as a compromise.

I'm correct in saying that the Auto Reset/Voice controls the time the radio will hold on the selected talkgroup, the amount of time that the last radio ID shows on the screen, and when the radio will start scanning again after it receives a call, right? For DMR, NXDN, and P25... It sure would be nice if these parameters were able to be controlled individually.

Whats the main difference between the KCH-19 head and the KCH-20 head. Trying to figure out which one would be good for my setup. Does the KCH 20 require an external speaker when the KCH 19 does not?

Bigger display, rotary knobs for channel and volume, more buttons to assign the various features to and yes, if you use the KCH-20, you have to use an external speaker, although I would argue that an external speaker is a better choice with the KCH-19 than relying on the built-in speaker alone.

Yes the 20 doesn't have a built in speaker. I like the 20 with more buttons so I don't have to go hunting through menus.

Copyrighted software of any kind is not to be bought or sold through the Radio Reference forums. Forum posts requesting the sale or purchase of copyrighted software will be deleted and the poster may be penalized.

“Sale or Purchase” can we share the NX-5000 firmware/software at no cost?
Basically we’re talking about the release of 3.10... can I solicit a copy of the firmware?

No. It's still copyrighted software and, generally, the copyright owner's license does not permit distribution of their copyrighted work by means not permitted under the software license.

So, forget what I said. Lol....

Our dealers have been pretty forthcoming with the firmware updates, usually when we buy new radios. If you have the software and cables to DIY, try asking them for the firmware update.

You can't take someone else's copy of KPG-D1N software and simply make your own copy of it and use it. You need to have an activation key from Kenwood. Activation keys can only be used on one computer at a time.

Updating firmware sometimes requires using updated programming software to access the updated features.

Always best to work directly with your dealer on this. A good dealer will provide you with software/firmware updates.

If you have a good working relationship with your dealer, it's not hard to get updates. The license keys is what's a pay for item.

Thanks guys for the ideas. I just setup a dual deck dual head on my Jeep that came out really nice. Used a duplexer so that I could use one dual band NMO antenna. I have the KCH-20 up front and the KCH-19 in the rear. I read the forum to come up with a solution for dual speakers with 3.5mm plugs for each deck... I got the (MFJ) that sound pretty decent besides the really high tone... they are the True Tone MFJ speakers. All in all I am really happy with this setup. I upgraded to FPP and DMR Conventional so far also. It was really helpful to read this thread from beginning to end while l was configuring the setup both hardware and software.

Good Morning All,
Quick question with the NX-5700/5800 and programming DMR.
If we were to use the information posted here...
https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/details.php?state_id=12&ID=15221
to program the DMR Conventional frequencies in KPG-D1N, would it be necessary to have slot selection set to 1,2 or auto? and what channel spacing is DMR using Narrowband or Wideband?
I programmed with Color Code 1, Narrow Band, Slot Selection 1 and the input and output frequencies. When I transmit I don't really get any indication from the repeater and I did observe the radio picking up on a broadcast on another test but I had no audio incoming. I also was getting a tone on the DMR channel that seemed to be an alert every 30 seconds to 1 minute.
I attached a file of my programming. Also I have not changed any other DMR settings other than enabling DMR conventional.

Thank you for any guidance.

I dont see your talkgroup info in the picture but try talkgroup 2 on slot 2. most ham networks have that as a local talkgroup.

Edit, found this also...

DMR-MARC - Plantation - Florida
W4MOT 442.425 +5 MHz Color Code 1
W4MOT 145.300 -.6 MHz, ColorCode1
description
Time Slot #1 - Group Call 1 = Worldwide All Languages (PTT activated with 5 min inactivity timeout)
Time Slot #1 - Group Call 3 = North America
Time Slot #1 - Group Call 13= Worldwide English
Time Slot #2 - Group Call 2 = Local Only
