• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anyone looking to disable the audible key tone *Beep* when pressing buttons can follow these instructions to do so.
In KPG-D1N under optional features select optional features 1 and then sound... Turn off the Control Tone to disable key Beep.

:p Anyone know if there's a way to disable the stop on the rotary knob at channel 16? Is there also a setting that allows scrolling the knob past 16 channels before returning to channel 1?

What is everyone programming the blue Button on the side of the portables for? I was thinking for Bluetooth for programming wirelessly or for GPS... What are some other thoughts?

On my radios, I program "Channel Recall" on Short Press, holds whatever channel the last call was on. Long press is "Channel Information"

The stopper setting you're looking for is under the Key Assignment page, Top/Side tab, "16 position channel selector" checkbox

Great idea for the side button! I’m going to do the same. Any idea how to remove the stopper on the rotary channel knob ?

Found an intermittent bug in KPG-D1N v4.0

1. Start KPG-D1N
2. Open saved Data File
3. Click on Zone/Channel
4. Open a DMR Zone
5. Open it's Zone/Channel information
6. Scroll thru list
7. KPG-D1N shuts down

Anyone else seeing this?

I can reproduce this regularly, noticed same effect when trying to scroll thru Zone/Channel Information list in an NXDN zone. Can I revert back to a previous version of KPG-D1N with my 5800K2 running f/w v 4.0?

I have submitted this for review.

KWD: Is this with a single code plug (same one) or can you do it on multiple codeplugs? (isolate to one file, or happens to any file)

EFM: Can you email the file or files that you can duplicate this on, and let me know?

REVERTING TO 3.10, no, if you have 4.0 in the radio, you have to put 3.11 or 3.10 firmware in, then you can revert to 3.10 FPU.

So reverting the firmware is easy and do able unlike Motorola and couple others? Thanks I had wondered that but never needed to downgrade.

The issue occurs with any of my code plugs and with data downloaded into KPG-D1N from the transceiver. Are you running under Win 10 and are you seeing the issue?

They run KPG-D1N under Windows 7 in LMR support. They were unable to duplicate the issue with my code plug on their system. I am running Windows 10. The issue may be due to a recent NET Framework update from Microsoft and not Kenwood's V4 update. Their programmers will have to sort it out.

Any idea where one can obtain the short power lead that runs out of the back of the mobiles? The one I bought had it cut off so I don't have the connector that's usually there attached to the radio and mates to the other connector...and that I wanted to connect to my existing power run when I pull my nx700.

The DC cord coming out of the back of the radio for the non-H versions is Kenwood part number E30-7520-45 List price is less than $13.00

Contact your friendly neighborhood Kenwood dealer and have them order you one.

Is there anything special that is needed inside the computer besides Bluetooth capability? I have a Mac running parallels with Windows 10 and I'd like to use the Bluetooth programming feature will this work?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

OK, so I know this post I'm quoting was from a looooong time ago but I looked and did not see a response to his question. I also checked and see the user was active on here this week so hopefully either he'll see it and can answer or someone else who has done this will answer. I posted in one of the Facebook groups about this and no one fully answered my specific question.

The question is - I also have a Macbook running Parallels for running Windows 10. Has/does anyone used/use a Mac to program these 5xxx radios via Parallels? I know his question was specifically about bluetooth but I'm talking about with the cable even. I know I could try it, but with the wideband thing, etc., (i.e. "we won't re-issue it if you lose it) I don't want to risk it not working and me not, for whatever reason, being able to transfer my wideband provision to another computer so I'm hoping there are some who may have used this method and can let me know how it worked for them.

Malcolm, User K03Q here, uses a Macbook to program his 5800. You may want to leave him a direct message.

Thanks for that info. @KO3Q apparently doesn't allow private messages (no option to start a direct conversation with him like other users) so I will 'mention' him here in hopes that he's sees it. If he uses a Mac to program I'd certainly like for him to reach out. My email is good on QRZ or he can private/direct message (conversation) here.

I use the setup described without issue. In the past there were some port timing issues. When I hit write button there is a long pause then progress bar takes off at rapid pace.

Is there any way to reorder zones? To describe what I mean, let's say I have 6 zones of channels setup and I would prefer zone 1 be zone 4, for example, so that zone 2 becomes 1 and 3 becomes 2, etc. Is there a way to do that in D1N without somewhat starting over or no? I'm using Channel Table instead of personality, if it matters...

Follow-up:

I asked elsewhere, too, and the suggestion was made to use the copy/paste feature as they can be copied to the end of the zones or inserted where I wanted and then the original one deleted. That worked. I hadn't seen the copy button yet (still fairly new to D1N) so I didn't realize that option existed. Anyway, posting here in case anyone comes across this in the future with the same question...
