The Criminal Investigation Unit may have been merged with the DA Squads to form the Criminal Investigations Squads, several DA's Offices have NYSP Investigators assigned to them. Also it appears that NYSP Troop M lists these locations: SP Rockaway, SP Bronx, SP Brooklyn, SP Staten Island, and Manhattan Station which I think is Wards Island. There also appears to be a NYC Airports assignment, troopers seen at LGA and Kennedy.

I started a breakdown on zones, so far I have:
Zone 1: Confidential Investigation Squad; Criminal Squads,
Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Unit
Zone 2: NYDETF; NYOCDSF
Zone 3: Uniform
Any one with info jump in.

Looked at the Wiki for Troop L, unless there has been a radical change there is no Zone 3, Riverhead(Riverdale) and Fishers Island are in Zone 2

TROOP NYC patrol vehicles are marked with 3Mxx. There are stations at various bridges.
Station Rockaway - Bklyn side of the Gil Horges - Marine Parkway Bridge.
Similar structures appear at the Bronx side of the Throggs Neck Bridge and in Staten Is. at the V.Z bridge.
The 3M vehicles are also doing traffic enforcement on major streets.

Troop cars (A to L) are the units detailed to secure the transportation hubs such as the airports.

Sorry for the bit OT ?, if I want to listen to the NYSP specifically on I-87, and there only, what do I have to listen to frequencies wise? I’ve done some searching and am a bit confused.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Erie County has some funky troop car id's that I've been hearing lately.....

A204, A202, and A99, they only identify as that, NOT 2A02/2A204/2A99, when others identify #A##....
these cars are all over the county, I hear them down in souther and norther Erie county, so I have no idea where they are based out of

also, missing off the wiki page is 2A88 usually in souther Erie county, i believe its just a trooper, not anything special (ie k9 unit)

The #A8# units tend to be traffic enforcement. Many of them are high performance cars.

These identifiers are troop wide, i will double check on them again and add it to the wiki.

2A88 added to the wiki as "Traffic Enforcement". Thanks

Last September Troop A, Zone 2 Clarence moved from it's former station on Main st. in Clarence into the new Clarence public safety campus at 196 Trooper Kevin P. Dobson Way. Effectively becoming the new Troop A Zone 2 headquarters. The Boston station hasn't closed it's just no longer the Zone 2 hq.
The Clarence station is located a little over 30 miles to the North of the Boston station.
This would likely explain the "funky" identifiers in the area as of late due to the relocation.

More than likely, CVE units.

A99 could really be anything. Looking at the other troops on 10-75.net:

B99 is a CVE
E99 is a pickup truck
G99 is a command post truck
L99 is a recruiter

As far as the X2## units those are CITE units. Any X1## units are TIMS cars

I drive around a lot and pay attention to the vehicles around me, and pick out unmarked cars all the time..... if I recall correctly, I believe I saw A202 as a plain Jane blue Tahoe, unmarked, no tinted windows, slick top with the stick family stickers on the back doing traffic enforcement (or what appeared to be). ill keep my eye out for it, I know I've seen these troop cars around town, I just can't recall off the top of my head which one was what.

When I was a PSD (more than two years ago), I had one of them with the "non-standard" or "funky" identifier call up with me on the radio, and he was based from SP Boston. Also SP Clarence was still taking 9-1-1 calls and dispatching when I left, I know its different now, I hear SP Boston cars calling Batavia now since they merged the whole communication center to Batavia. Regardless, the car numbers, or at least some of them with the different identifiers came before the consolidation/moving of HQ/Dispatch

Is it possible that the unprefixed Troop numbers are badge numbers?

Shield numbers are 4 digits and usually read at the end of the transmission.

Unprefixed troop numbers are troop wide units like CVEU, TIMS, CITE, Recruiters, Emergency Management, SCUBA, Commo Sgt, etc
