I have been listening to Oakland NJ, PD for some time. Today, The police are silent...nothing and I know they have things they have to do such as school checks, the occasional pulled over driver. Its been completely silent. Also, Oakland Fire/EMS usually tones twice. I only hear one one and I hear nothing until the Ambulance or Fire Trucks are dispatched. Oakland fire ground seems to be working as well. Could Oakland be migrating to new frequencies or going digital and/or encrypted? Thanks in advance for any info.

your best bet would be they are on alpine.
Except that they are operating on Bergen County PS IOP 4 as @NNJIPScan stated, which has nothing to do with the NJICS system. Even when they do operate on the NJICS, they wouldn't normally be on either of the sites you listed, but rather the Passaic Simulcast.

The correct answer was already given by a local member in post #2. Oakland PD is currently/temporarily operating on the Bergen County system on the PS IOP 4 talkgroup.

A simple search would've returned this very recent thread explaining the whole situation:

I have programmed these frequencies and everything I could find that had a license for Oakland, Borough of. I have not heard anything from Oakland. I had to lock out some channels that are encrypted. I guess thats where they went. :-(

Forgive me but I am a newbie at all this. I had been hearing Oakland dispatching on the frequencies they always had, 45.26 (DPW), 45.56, 46.56(fire/ems dispatch, 45.98 (police dispatch), and 151.3775 (fireground). 45.26, 45.56 have been quiet for some time, DPW doesnt talk much anyway. Up until yesterday, 45.98 and 46.56 were relatively busy during the day. Lately they have been quiet at night. Fire and EMS dispatch always toned twice. The first tone was crystal clear as if they were right next to me the second sounded at little further off. I could always hear dispatch, the mobiles were a little scratchy depending on where in town they were, Now I only hear one tone and no voices. I dont hear anything until either the fire truck or rig is on the air then I hear both sides of the conversation. When fire and EMS returns to quarters...NOTHING. Fireground is unchanged. I have been programming frequencies like mad trying to find Oakland as its my hometown. I have it set to scan for digital and analog frequencies. But to no avail. I am at my wits end here. I am ready to just unplug the scanner and put it back in my car since I also use my scanner for the railroads as I am a rail enthusiast. At least they aren't going anywhere.

What are the frequencies in this talk group?

Ok, two things. Sometime yesterday afternoon Oakland started once again communicating on its VHF low frequencies. I have also managed to finally program the trunked frequencies properly into my scanner. Whistler does not make it easy. I havent heard much on the trunked frequencies, but then again the VHF low frequencies have been quiet too. Well, quiet after a couple of accidents, one with a rolled over pickup caused a flurry of activity with police, fire, ems and the DPW. I heard the first call on the trunked system which had a slight delay from the VHF low transmission. It was pretty interesting hearing it. Anyway, a thanks to everyone who has helped me with this. Happy Scanning!!

I have a question.....I live along the Ramapo River in the Pleasureland neighborhood near Exit 57 which is Skyline Drive. I am having a difficult time tuning into Oakland NJICS. Its very hard to get a signal. I am assuming that I am too far from MSU and Garrett Mountain to pick up those repeaters. Could this be what I have seen on the forums as the "umbrella effect"? Anotherwards, I am too close to the repeater as well as being too far below it as well to pick up the signal? I pick it up, but sporadically and often its just a carrier with no voice. And yes, they STILL call it the Pleasureland area even though Pleasureland closed in 1986 and is now Great Oak Park. Oh, and yes, I was living here when they had the shootout at FRG which was the pool area next to Pleasureland. I never heard a shot, just the wail of sirens. I went up there to investigate. They were searching every car leaving FRG. I actually saw the cops pull a gun out of a pot of something or other. I forget now. I wanted to get one of the shirts printed up after the fact that had the image of an M16 that said Six Flags Over Oakland presents theJamaican Jamboree PLENTY of action in the park!! LOL!! My mother wouldn't let me have one. :-(

MSU and Garret are part of Passaic County Simulcast along with Ramapo. As long as the PC Simulcast frequencies are programmed into your scanner it should be working fine. You are about 2 miles from the Ramapo site so you shouldn't be having issues
