I had a strange occurance last night I'm hoping someone can explain. I was about 3 miles from BUR and got a hit on the approach frequency 134.20000, then on the tower 118.70000. My signal on those is usually pretty poor and hard to understand and this was as well. I just happened to turn off my car ignition during a transmission and as soon as ignition went off the PsR500 picked up a loud rapid chirp, maybe 5 beeps per second. On the scanner display the signal strengh flashed on and off in time with the beeping.

When I turned the car back on the scanner beeping stopped. I monitored the frequency for several minutes and every time I got degradation of reception and beeping with car engine off and improved reception with no beeps when car engine was turned on.

I can certainly understand the chance for car ignition interferance but how could engine running improve scanner reception ? What if anything could I try to get rid of this. I tried attenuating the frequency but it just made everything go away.

Thanks

Steve

Steve maybe you turning on the engine turned off the electric device or process in the car that was causing the initial interference. My Uniden 396T would get more interference from the car when off than when I turned the engine on too.

The PRO-2067 in my car often locks onto a channel and makes a noise similar to, but different than, the audio sound of a trunked control channel. This occurs right after I turn the engine off. It doesn't happen every time, so it is difficult to figure out why it does this.
