I was just watching the morning news on WLOX TV 13 here in Biloxi, and they covered a story saying that MWIN would be ready and operational along the gulf coast within 3 months. They showed an unknown tower site while the news anchor was talking about it. It was brief but it was specific that said within 3 months it would be operational. I can not find anything online about that though. Maybe wlox.com will update their site in a few hours?

I went to this site http://www.govtech.com/gt/articles/126700 and the most recent release was July 11th and Haley Barbour said that they were getting ready to deploy MWIN for 2008 hurricane season, and were going to install 3 SOWS (sites on wheels) in the gulf coast by August (which is this month) and operational until the fixed tower sites are still being built. They would have thousands of radios shipped within 24 hours of a disaster. So it seems there is probably 3 SOWS installed on the coast now, where (who knows) might want to scan 700mhz for some new CC's but it doesn't sound like there will be much activity unless there is a disaster there won't be any radios on it.

That link I provided is working for me. You might want to try it again. But don't be confused, the story I saw on the news the other morning ISN'T ON THAT LINK. But the info on that link did state that by August they would have SOWs in place for the 2008 hurricane season that are on MWIN.

So far since everyone has been ramping up for the hurricane I've heard the following talkgroups become active on MSWIN:

ID:1 (UNKNOWN MALE/FEMALES DOING RADIO CHECKS, CALLSIGNS G-GEORGE-19,12 AND H-HENRY AND H-HENRY-5 SOUNDS LIKE MHP)
ID:2 (UNKNOWN MALE SAYING TESTING)
ID:3 (UNKNOWN MALE BRIEF STATEMENTS NOT SURE WHAT WAS SAID)
ID:7 (DMR BILOXI DISPATCH)
ID:15 (MHP HRD C, H, AND K UNITS *VERY ACTIVE NOW* SOMEONE CALLED THIS TAC 1)

ID:15 HRD C2, C5, K50, H2, C18 having various conversations, getting directions to staging areas on the coast, someone reported an accident harrison county was working etc. So its pretty safe to assume ID 15 is MHP they called it TAC 1. Sounds like several different districts using it to communicate. BTW, C2 was in JACKSON while he was on the air when I heard him coming through the fountainbleu site.

Fountainbleu SITE Frequencies discovered (not in any order): CC- 764.1625 SID: 0260h-0105
VC - 774.3312 774.0812 764.6562 764.9062

ID 13 I just heard. Interop attempts with Louisiana were performed. LA State Police could not copy back. Patch(es) were not finished or they are very busy on the other end.

Callsigns P-Paul and X-X-ray were heard. One person was in D'iberville while another person was in MEMA HQ. (P-Paul I can say was the one in D'iberville.)

P-Paul tried hailing D-David on ID 50.

EDIT:
Heard P-Paul call ID 1 "MDOT"

Is it safe yet to call this system the MSWIN system now, at least for RRDB?

Or should wait for more routine traffic outside of Gustav?

Hey Bryan, yeah I guess we can go back to the original assumption that what you had discovered was MSWIN! Everything on the MSWIN website indicates that it is. So yes it's MSWIN. It's here, its a reality, and I was up all day listening to heavy usage by MHP. They were constantly doing little radio checks and having people go here or there. On the way to work I heard C2 call for all C, H, and M units to meet at the MDOT building on I-110. Sounds like they have a lot of MHP units down here now staging.

The fact that the MSWIN newsletter indicates that DMR is a regular user should be proof enough.

Sounds great on the 3 new sites.

If anyone wants to know where they are located, here it is.

Site 1 - 30-31-44.0 N, 089-06-45.0 W is north of Wire road and west of Highway 15 near Ramsey Springs. This is east of Hwy 49 near McHenry, MS. This is Stone County.

Site 2 - 30-28-36.1 N, 089-25-44.1 W is on Hwy 603 and north of Hwy 43, which is north of Kiln MS in Hancock County.

Site 3 - 30-31-44.0 N, 089-06-45.0 W is on Highway 49 and is two miles north of Hwy 53. This is Harrison County.

Good hunting!

It would seem that MHP has started limited usage of MSWIN now. I've been seeing ID:3 pop up from time to time, the most recent was about 15 minutes ago some traffic on it about looking for a motorcycle. Anyhow anyone within range of MSWIN towers should actively begin listening, ID: 3 MHP seems to be getting some use now.

It has been about a year since work has begun on the MWIN system,(southern part of the state) and it is still not operational.

Does this mean that for Middle of Mississippi, it may be at least another year, before it becomes operational in that part of the state?

And about two more years for the Northern part of the state?

Thanks

I'm going to estimate 5 years for the whole project to be complete. It's your government hard at work!!

Bee the southern part IS OPERATIONAL.... It's used every day by Dept. Marine Resources, and was used heavily during Hurricane Gustav by MHP. It's not really being used much now, but it is operational. I'd give it another 2 years or so before we start seeing MHP and other state departments migrate over to it for their day to day traffic.

Thanks, nexus.
But, you state, it"was used heavily during hurricane Gustav by MHP", and "It's not really being used much now, but it is operational".
My question is, why isn't it being used much now, that it is operational, especially by MHP?

Thanks
