HooRah! I'm finally listening to NYSEG !

Nice to hear NYSEG again. Finally found a 996T for a decent price ($300) & loaded up all the CC's & TGID's & let 'er go in ID search mode. Probably not the best way to do it, but I'm new to trunking & digital. They sound pretty good with just a touch of digital artifacts.

Thanks to all those who contributed here to make this possible!

Merry Christmas,
Happy Holidays &

The only site I could get here was 122 up on Birch hill in Hebron / Granville. Heard group 211 so far, expecting some chatter from the Granville guys sometime.

Those are the Pro96Com program's calculations for the input frequencies. They are wrong and the program author was notified some time ago.

Anyone load NYSEG into a PRO96 via Arc96?

Having one heck of a time trying to load NYSEG into my PRO96. I don't have the info that ARC96 is asking for, IE: frequency, offset & step. I'm asking here cause I figure someone is using just that combo. Looks like I'm going to need step by step help on this one. I'm new to trunking & REALLY confused. My e-mail is : rja1@comcast.net

Thanks for your time.

Try frequency = 136.000, offset = 0, and step = 12.5

Thanks Pro92B !! I've got the frequency & step set, but the offset reverts back to 380 when I try to load it into the scanner. It's loaded into the PRO96 & I'll try it when I get back to NY. Visiting M&D in NJ now.

Set the system type to P25 Mot 9600 CC, not Mot VHF. I don't have ARC96 and don't know what terminology it uses but it seems to be set as a 3600 control channel.

On the settings page under bank type, I can choose from the following: Not Trunked, Motorola or EDACS. On the frequencies page under mode type, I can choose from: AM, FM/P25 (conventional Digital ???), Motorola, EDACS, CTCSS, DCS. There is no Motorola P25 choice.

Silly me, I thought my 996T was difficult to program.

Disregard my previous note - I was thinking of the West Point system. For NYSEG you have to enter six rows in the extended trunking table. This can only be done with software and a screenshot of the Win96 table is below. Hopefully ARC96 allows a similar entry.

I have updated my NYSEG system page again. This time I added placeholders for the talkgroups that should/will be assigned to the remaining zones. That should aid the detective work as new talkgroups are discovered.

OK, I give up

Hello all,
Got my PRO 96 just before Christmas. Have programmed conventional & non P25 trunked systems with ARC96 & everything works fine. Have ben trying (since I got this thing) to program NYSEG with no joy. Spent 5.5 hours today trying with no joy.

I'm a premium member & have tried using info from RR, also loaded up all the control channels via ARC96 & let the scanner go in open mode. Nothing. Also loaded a file sent to me by a fellow ham (Thanks Steve!), nothing.

I have a 996T that I loaded up with all the CC's & run it in ID search & it works fine. We had an ice storm & NYSEG has been very busy all day.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong, or not doing ?? Scanning is supposed to be fun, right? So far, this has ben an exercise in futility & frustration. I've been a ham for almost 20 years & have learned to program dozens of rigs (even YAESU handhelds!!), but I'm at my wits end with this handheld scanner.

Thanks for your help !!

What's wrong is you didn't enter the table I posted on 12/28. The control channel broadcasts the band plan and the Uniden 996 can read it and apply it. The PRO-96 is an older radio , not capable of reading the band plan from the control channel. You have to tell the PRO-96 what the band plan is.

In ARC96 open the file that contains the NYSEG system. Select settings under the NYSEG bank. Under Mot 9600 Systems Bandplan click on Multi Tables (not normal or single table). Then click on the Motorola Multi Tables bar at the lower right of the screen. A Bandplan Editor window pops up. Enter the table I provided and note that ARC96 incorrectly rounds off the 142.4225 entry. It should still be close enough to work and you can't do anything about it anyway unless and until ARC96 is updated. After table entry click ok, save the system and load it to the PRO-96.

OK, reloaded the system with the table in place, still no good. I was told the Frequency-Offset-Step figures should be 136.000-0-12.5, however, when I try to make the offset zero, it reverts back to 380 when I download it back to the scanner.

Is the mutli-table in your post from ARC96? I only ask because my multi-table does not show anything above the table itself.

Thanks again for your help !

136.000-0-12.5 is NOT correct for NYSEG. The image I posted of the table is from WIN96. I guess the only way to end this is for you to post your ARC96 file. I have a demo version of ARC96 on the laptop and it still has a few days before it expires. I should be able to edit your file and post it back here.

FWIW

At one time I had a need to calculate frequencies using the base/offset, etc..

I created an excel spreadsheet that may be useful to some and it's attached to this post as a zip file.

Many don't have a need for this information but it may help you picture how the tables work.

Given the LCN number it will calculate the frequency for you.

Referring to the screenshot from post #8 above:
http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showpost.php?p=831288&postcount=8

For example:
The first LCN is '03-2019' with a frequency of 0.00000
If you go to the spreadsheet and enter '2019' into 'channel' for 03-xxxx it will give you the correct frequency of 152.51750 Mhz.

I recommend switching to Win96. The Starrsoft programs have far less trouble dealing with complicated trunking setups than do the Butel programs.

Screen shots from ARC96

Here's some screen shots of the settings page & the multitable page. Arc 96 would only let me send .csv files of the frequencies & talk group pages.

The Index 5 Lo Chan should be 24576, not 20576. Typo error on my part - sorry. Hope that will get tracking going. Otherwise it looks ok and should work if ARC96 loads the radio properly.

Made the suggested change & still not receiving NYSEG. Wanted to check & make sure the unit would receive a digital signal, so I put the voice channel from the brewster site in & I hear comms fine. Only trouble is, I'm also hearing data bursts on the voice channel. Any other ideas.......before I start looking for a 396T ?
