FWIW, the Liberty/Sullivan County site/area on the XTL display reports it to be "Site 14" via the radio's RSSI function. What exact location or freqency, I do not know so don't ask. This could encompass Site 104/120/122. I have not cross referenced it on the RR database, but I believe its the one listed as 104 from where the radio was located.

That is all.

Better to reference NYSEG sites on nf2g.com than the database here. The site is probably 114 which carries Liberty traffic. I used IDTracker to monitor site 114 all day today and groups 131 191 and 193 were active.

Not wanting to look back at the last 7 pages, I will go out on a limb here and say that the "100" series tower site numbers need to be dropped. Start with the single digits and work your way up. IE: Site 104 = site 4, Site 112 = Site 12, etc.

Just an observation as Motorola itself (from installation experience) typically do not label or identify site numbers that high in systems of this size. I am not sure why the trunking programs (and/or users) are reporting high site numbers.

The "tower" number is actually two numbers ...

The first two digits are the subsystem #.
The last two digits are the site #.

T0110 = Sub 1 Site 16.
T0111 = Sub 1 Site 17.
T011E = Sub 1 Site 30.

From the reports it appears that NYSEG may be using two subsystems, 0 and 1. If so the subsystem number distinguishes between two tower numbers that are the same but are in different subsystems.

In my previous reply about site 114, that is a decimal representation. If the Motorola radio displays hex, 14 would be decimal 20, listed as site 120 in this thread.

Motorola radios, when reporting site numbers on the display, do not display in hex. They display the actual site number or alias (if enabled) of the site.

I agree that, given what is already known, "site 14" on a Motorola radio would be the one we all refer to as "site 114." The most likely location of Site 114 would cover Sullivan County, too.

BTW, I cancelled my downstate drive today. It was raining too hard this morning for me to put my laptop in my car. However, a major NTS drill that was scheduled for Sunday morning has been cancelled, so maybe I will do it tomorrow.

I made my driving trip yesterday. Here is a summary of the interesting stuff. Web page being updated today.

Site 102 - NOT HEARD (surprising as others have reported it in a location that should cover most of the Hudson Valley)
Site 114 - must be south of Site 120
Site 120 - nearly the same coverage as Site 121 in Austerlitz, but I can't hear it at home
Site 125 - confirmed at Dover (site ID transmitted EMT)
Site 127 - confirmed at Marvin Mountain (site ID transmitted MMT)
Site 130 - confirmed at Brewster

Apparently the sites on which I have detected an identifier are exceptions. I did not receive any identifiers (FCC callsigns or otherwise) on any "new" sites except 127.

For my listings, I am designating the 130 series of talkgroups as "Brewster." All locations mentioned were in Putnam and Westchester counties. The 190 series appears to cover the other side of the Hudson River.

No NYSEG transmissions were received below I-84 along I-87.

My next trip, tentatively planned for Wednesday, will be in the Delaware and Schoharie county areas.

I have heard calls in Dutchess County on group 131 - Dover and Pawling among others.

Here is a quick survey of control channel signal strengths using the PWR protocol command on a BCD996T. Monitoring point is the Kingston area. Signals below 200 are too weak to decode.

NYSEG Control Channel Signal Strength BCD996T
Channel Master 5094 Antenna
With no antenna BCD996T signal strength reading is 75

PWR,324,01517300 site 102
PWR,280,01521575 site 125
PWR,215,01522175 site 127
PWR,349,01520525 site 121
PWR,451,01526825 site 120
PWR,360,01528175 site 114
PWR,148,01528025 site 130
PWR,195,01530575 site 129
PWR,152,01532600 site 101

http://nf2g.com/scannist/0269.html updated today.

I am still thinking about a survey trip tomorrow, but I might have to postpone it due to the several inches of snow that have fallen (and are still falling) on the roads where I was planning to go.

Results of eastern Catskills trip:

Site 103 is in Oneonta.
Site 129 is in Stamford on Mt. Utsuyantha.

I will be updating the map and the network diagram after I spend some more time analyzing what I learned yesterday. The main listing is updated as of now.

One other thing I forgot to mention - I have heard absolutely no traffic on any of NYSEG's low band channels lately. According to the license data, 48.32 MHz appears to be their statewide channel. That one might be worth keeping around for a while. In all of the areas where the high band trunked system covers, low band appears to have been turned off.

Does NYSEG use many portables on the new system or is it more of just a mobile system. The area I'm in most of the linemen carry portables on a trunked system but from what I have seen around the country that is not always the case.

It works well with portables depending on the area you are in. Delaware River valley is a mobile area whereas the flatter lands work port.

In the aftermath of the December 12 ice storm, I have noted that NYSEG still uses some conventional channels within the trunked coverage area.

48.32 is active in the Capital District, and I can hear some traffic on 48.22 (Whiteface). There also appears to be a digital conventional repeater on 173.350/N293.

Site 121 Austerlitz has been down since at least yesterday morning.

I'm thinking of adding an online feed in addition to the ScanBroomeCounty feed I currently have.

I've put on a temporary feed for the next few days or so for testing and evaluation. It includes six counties around the Binghamton/Broome County area.

I included sites 109, 115, and 119 on that feed for the time being for anyone interested in hearing what the system sounds like. The details are in the linked post.
