Ok, my antenna project is done - finally. Triple-digit heat slowed the project. At 77 I no longer tempt fate and head out into this heat - for any reason.
I have to say, this has been a big improvement over my old antenna. Better airport reception, better and clearer highway patrol and sheriff reception. Farther-out transmissions from mobiles are not as scratchy as they sometimes were, depending on how far out the mobiles were. As I become more able to work my SD200 (A daunting task to say the least), I can't wait to see what else I can draw in. Yep, I'm a happy man with this new setup.

20' should get some good reception. Do you listen to anything from Tahoe? CHP?

Awesome. Yeah, the PVC would never work good. I used 2 pieces of chain link fence post (cemented in) that I can telescope from 10'-20' with a 30" standoff. Yeah, that SDS200 is a riot to learn. I'm 64 myself, and don't try some of the stuff I used to. Glad you're happy with it.

Well, I ditched the pipe idea for the antenna mount and instead, bought the 20' Harbor Freight extendable flagpole for my mount. I read all the complaints about how the pole collapses all the time so I bought some clamps I'll add to keep that from happening. Should be up by next week after my cable arrives. No radio stores near me so Amazon to the rescue again.
I am trying to find clamps for my setup. What kind did you get?

I know this thread is old, but I just found it and became interested in that Harbor Freight flag pole. I was reading through the reviews on their website and found Mr Tommy's review and in it he explained how he modified the flag pole and posted a few pictures. I don't see any way to post a direct link to the review, so I am copying it and pasting it here for anyone to read.

Nice Pole for the price.

I bought this pole to use as a base for an antenna. For this purpose it is working just fine. I read all the one-star reviews and it seems to be because the pole sometimes collapses, probably due to wind and flag movement. I solved that by putting some wood shims in the plastic base that sits in the concrete. This prevents initial swaying. Then I drilled and installed pins just above each section where you twist the pole to lock it. I'm loving this pole! I might buy another for yet ANOTHER antenna.

Well done. The Omni-X is a great antenna. Harbor Freight has enabled so many options for hobby and craft folks to experiment. I used the same flag pole to test a few ADS-B radio setups. Easy up, then down. Drilled a hole in the old picnic table to hold it in place.
