The 436HP will do just fine. Just plug in that system above you'll be set.

I have not been listening for a while Now that Onslow has changed systems....will my R/S Pro96 Digital Scanner pick up the new 800 P25 Phase II TDMA if I program in the new control and alternate frequencies? Looking forward to hearing more. Thanks.

Jack,
Unfortunately the Pro96 can NOT handle P25 Phase II TDMA systems as that scanner was designed many years before the P25 Phase II TDMA standard came into existence.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I thought that might be the case. However, I can still get a lot of other transmissions including NCSHP and a bunch on VIPER. Depending on finances, it may be time to upgrade to a new model. What would you recommend in order to maximize coverage of this area , Topsail Island , Onslow, Pender, New Hanover counties etc. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.Jack

That is because VIPER is Phase 1 FDMA. The Pro96 can track and decode 800Mhz P25 Phase 1 FDMA but cannot track 700Mhz P25 Phase 1 FDMA. The Pro96 can NOT track and decode P25 Phase II TDMA in either 800Mhz or 700Mhz.

This is where personal choice comes into play. Whistler has a few models coming out soon and Uniden has 3 models that can handle P25 Phase II TDMA on the market now (HP-2, BCD436HP, BCD536HP).

Just have to decide which model has the features you will use the most.

Thank you. I guess another concern might be spending a lot of money and then having a lot of the municipalities decide to go encripted like Wilmington and New Hanover. Any rumors or timetable on that happening in this area?

Cary PD in Wake County is the only agency that I know of that has decided to encrypt all Comms. That does not mean that no one else has discussed it just that I have not heard of any plans for mass encryption.

Cary can afford to do that I guess. But Wilmington and New Hanover Cnty. have already done some... have they not?
We do not hear a lot of action living here on Topsail Island so we are always looking to expand our coverage area that offers a little more activity, but when Wilm & New Hanover encripted, it eliminated some of that. That's why I am cocerned aboujt spending a bunch of money on a new scanner. All updates are appreciated. Thanks.

On the new Onslow Phase II system, you can monitor County Fire Dispatch and EMS Dispatch, since they are using Phase 1 P25 for the time being.

My sources tell me once a few interop issues between the city and a couple of other entities are worked out, the entire system will most likely switch to full TDMA.

At the moment, the only users using TDMA on a primary basis is the Sheriff's Office, as well as the two TGs for EMS to Hospitals.

The system is supposed to have 4 sites, and it appears that only one site remains to be brought online. There is a site on a frequency that isn't licensed to either the county or city and it shows the same sysid as this system but shows it is in site trunking.

It also appears the control channel is being broadcast on the 853.7875 frequency at each site, which I don't know why....

They are broadcasting 853.7875 at each site because it is a true simulcast system. Scanners will have a hard time decoding this system as there will be clipping and chopping in the audio due to the scanner picking up multiple sites on the same CC. Real radios won't have this problem as they always actively look for the site with the best RSSI and lock onto that site, hence they won't have the clipping/choppy audio.

This is all great information. Thanks.

I am sure the Onslow switch over to Phase II included the NTBPD dispatch as well.

Eventhough there is not that much activity here in NTB during the off season.... I guess if I want to get back to monitoring the live NTBPD and Onslow County Sheriff's activity, I will have to upgrade.

Although many of the NTBPD officers use their cell phones a lot to talk car to car, the original dispatch is usually broadcast. Any and all updates are appreciated. Thanks.

NTB Municipal PD Talk group

Well, I got the Home Patrol 2 and now find that I get very liittle transmission on the Phase II Municipal PD Talk group. Had it Optimized by Scanner Master for Onslow P25 but just seems that not to pick up much on the new Phase II. Did a favorites upload from the ARC HP disc to try and zero in on just Onslow/Jacksonville but not much improvement. Any suggestions. All thougts appreciated. Thanks
