No it was not !! Open Sky was created in Lowell MA as a potential data only IP over radio solution for FedEx as the early cell systems were not cutting it. I don't recall the company name, but MA-COM purchased then in the hope that Open Sky would be the digital alternative to EDACS verses getting on the P25 train.

The rest is what it is...

Oakland County Michigan is in the process of designing another system to replace Open Sky.

Naperville IL uses Open Sky, heard this will be phased out soon and moving onto STARCOM.

OpenSky is a proprietary voicing type that we would need permission to be able to decode on our scanners with a licensing agreement. To date, The company behind OpenSky have not made an agreement of that sort with any scanner manufacturer.

I am not sure if we have tried.

Since they are smaller player, I would think they would want to limit any access to how their system operates and what other systems it can work with. Could be a selling tactic they could use, encryption 24/7 on all channels.

I've wondered the same thing.

Don't think anyone is "selling" OpenSky, it's circling the drain..

Truism

Dreamers will always dream.

Thank you for sharing your truism, "Dreamers will always dream."

Here is an interesting article on the subject of dreaming. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-science-behind-dreaming/

Many people "attempt" to make sense out of their dreams. What an effort in futility.

Back to the topic. Open Sky would be something I would buy from Uniden if offered. I am certainly happy I bought the upgrade to ProVoice or I would have missed out on some very interesting radio traffic. LOL.
