It says right in this Open Sky system brochure that it "USES" AES encryption for maximum security.
I believe you are reading in too much (again). It says other "use" DES, does that mean all the time?

When you use encryption, OpenSky "uses" AES.

. . . . I was told this was due mostly to the calls going over computer network equipment. The encryption is end-to-end meaning there's no way to listen in, not for you.
I agree that you and I are not able to listen in, but I think you were either misinformed about the non-optional nature of the encryption, or you misunderstood what you were told.

Eplanation of this post or "this post" OpenSky ?

I would love to read your explanation of this post.

I was agreeing with the sentiments of Citywide173's observation (opinion) of our fine news media
And I quote

"I'm really starting to believe that the mainstream media are just sheep."

My opinion
A real objective and unbiased "mainstream" media no longer exists in this country they are only a mouth piece for the liberal left.

I know this is not a political forum however it’s amazing how much of everything that happens is politically motivated

God bless America
I am sure this closing tag has really pxxxxxd off the politically correct left now.

I think Harris to more likely pursue the P25 FDMA and Phase II TDMA Trunking (When the standard is ready) and eventually ditch Open Sky. The P7200 will probably be phased out to make way for the Unity XG-100 and 100M mobile. I could be way off though.

Ah, I see.

I was thinking you were calling us "sheep" for not agreeing with your "We paid for it . . . " line.

In the immortal words of Emily Litella "Never Mind".:D

Keeping politics out

My apologies
Some how I thought that my post in fact all of these posts were suitable because they meet the definition of what might be found or discussed in a "forum"

Main Entry: fo•rum
Pronunciation: \ˈfȯr-əm\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural forums also fo•ra \-ə\
Etymology: Latin; akin to Latin foris outside, fores door — more at door
Date: 15th century
1 a: the marketplace or public place of an ancient Roman city forming the center of judicial and public business
b: a public meeting place for open discussion
c: a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas (OPEN)

2 : a judicial body or assembly : court

3 a : a public meeting or lecture involving audience discussion
b : a program (as on radio or television) involving discussion of a problem usually by several authorities

That said
I am aware that this is not a political forum and I truly do apologize and will most certainly keep my thoughts out of this forum.
In closing I would rather be asked nicely to leave this forum by its members than to one day be forced out by the brown shirt thought police.

Respectfully yours
Lee

Limited time offer...

Yes, I believe it’s the beginning of the end for the scanning community (again (LOL))…
I’m willing to purchase used scanners and communications receivers.
For a limited time,
I’ll pay $0.10 for every dollar you spent on a scanner or communications receiver.
Hurry, my offer will be getting lower day by day and will expire soon.

The exact same whining and ranting occurred a few years back when things started going digital. Everyone freaked out and cried it was the end of scanning. Any signal transmitted by any means can be received....period otherwise why would it be transmitted in the first place....No one thought a digital capable scanner would be made at first I still have some of the old posts folks made. And before all the know it all's start to post why it's not possible...save it you've said it before and it's rather boring.....

If all the "Know-it-alls" are wrong, why don't you (obviously the only true "Know-it-all") explain how you expect the scanner manufacturers to overcome teh issues mistakenly believed to be a problem by all those other "don't-know-it-alls"?

OK, then the entire thread needs to be closed because a decision to go to a different radio system by a public safety agency is most definitely a political decision when you factor in a bidding process and the kickbacks and concessions necessary to secure the deal.

Forum administrator, hear my plea

It appears that the majority would like this thread removed and so I plead in the interest of world peace close it, delete it and throw it into the lake of fire.

* "The freedom of speech is meaningless unless it means the freedom of the person who thinks differently. We may not agree with everything we hear, but we do ourselves an injustice if we fail to hear the dissenting voices"

*With the exception of this post

According to a friend who works in the industry, "end-to-end encryption" does not necessarily mean the radio end. The links between computers are encrypted.

Remember, the system brochures are advertising, not technical manuals. Some system characteristics can be described in vague or even deliberately misleading terms to promote sales.

Maybe my scanner buy back program idea should be used, or a tax deductible for what you paid for it. I think we should be compensated some how instead of getting higher taxes to pay for these encrypted systems, but only in areas that are completely unscannable.

While you're at it, why don't throw your trolling paranoid keister into the lake of fire as well.

Not all of us scanner listeners think like you do.

Not all of us scanner listeners perceive listening to police and public service conversations as a constitutional right or one that meets Thomas Jefferson's criteria of "the pursuit of happiness.".

Not all of us scanner listeners see the use of encryption as the end of civilization as we know it.

As a liberal, there are many, many, many violations of our civil rights that were instituted by previous administrations that I could complain about, but I'm not going to do it here. There's a 'politics' forum on this site where you can exercise your right to do all the trolling you want. Please shed your brain droppings in that forum.

Jeff
