I will give this one chance to get back on topic. This is not a thread where the discussion of all factors of encryption or other systems should be part of the topic. This is the Announcement and News forum, and if you are not talking directly about the move to encryption of the Orlando Police TG's, then take it somewhere else.

Better watch out for the black heliocopters. And wear your tin foil hat.

Your post is one of the most absurd posts I've read yet.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss such extreme scenarios.

It goes hand in hand with the disarming of Americans and the potential for
declaring martial law, or suspending parts of the Constitution or Bill Of Rights
(under the disguise of "national security"). It was done during WW-II when
we had tangible enemies we could identify (the Germans, and the Japanese).

Nowadays, it's somewhat more ambiguous, but disarming Americans
and outlawing or preventing citizens from monitoring government operations
would set up a "perfect storm" of sorts for abuse-of-power situations to
play out.

Look no further than Germany before WW-II (what happened to the Jews).
They (at first), saw nothing wrong with the new laws that Hitler and his party
put in place (to make everyone "safer") - and we all know how that story
ended.

Irrational Fear and Unsubstantiated Safety Claims

Good for them!! I'm all for encryption and digital systems that are unmonitorable! Keeps the whackers and buffs from interfering with us trying to do our JOBS!

PS - I just love all the conspiracy theorists that claim we're trying to hide something or we're all part of some huge government "police state" coverup!
I thank this guy for making a perfect example of the ignorance and hostility toward scanner listeners by some. This is really how some out there think, especially the newer and rookie first responders.

Note the lack of any actual verifiable instances of a scanner listener impeding his job or putting his or other first responders' lives in danger. Many, including myself have encountered wannabe cops or heros who are scanner listeners, and every so often one is indeed an annoyance. But no more of an annoyance than the multitude of citizens who insist on exiting their homes while the air unit is circling above and there's a loose armed robbery suspect in the neighborhood.

Fact is very few but the most dedicated hobbyists can effectively program an monitor todays complicated trunked and digital systems. I have yet, ever, to encounter in my career a thug who has managed to sucessfully elude us or put any one on my squad into harms way by using his police scanner. The idea that first responder safety is at risk is an alarmist, and rather ignorant argument put forth that simply is not valid.

The reality is that the most of the civil servants who don't want citizens to monitor their non-sensitive radio traffic are young rookies who have only recently been on the force, the local and regional cops who want to conduct covert, military style operations like the big boy Feds they see on TV and in the movies, or the ones who do have some problems following procedures and policies and don't like the media or others hearing their mistakes.

It's no conspiracy, and no, scanner listeners are not interested in harassing you while you are trying to save the world, and we are not trying to overthrow the government by listening to how you respond to your residential alarm call or investigate that noise complaint.
