I am listing to the Ottawa P25 system. I have it program as 1 Freq trunk system and while I am scanning, I see this TG ID. I haven't seen it before so I'm not sure what it belongs to. I have it on ID Search.

I'm here a lot
Because I see a little "i" before the number, it tells me it is a system radio. It could be a private conversation between Dispatch and one of the units. It is not a system talkgroup, but a radio ID.

I need some help. I accidentally hit a button on my scanner and now when I am scanning my P25 trunk system, it will go back and forth to that and then the Public Safety freq keeps on showing up. How do I fix this issue?
I would like to have my scanner just to scan my P25 trunk system but now every few seconds I see Public Safety freq. I removed my P25 system and add it back and it still happens. I'm really worried I messed up my BCD 325P2 scanner :(
It's the Ottawa P25 trunk system

Does it say "Public Safety" and start scanning frequencies ?

Try hitting the function button and then the lockout twice quickly F, L/O, L,O

On the 325 I have had a few things running and that is quicker than getting into all the services and locking things out.
I had 3 systems and a custom and a Service Search going and do the F, L/O, L/O 5 times and go to 'NOTHING TO SCAN ' and then unlock my county

Did you try the function, lockout twice thing ?

Yes, it's not happening now,but it says only Temporary Lock Outs ::(

I don't know how to do it permanently.

That is why you have to hit the Lockout twice, once is a Temporary Lockout.
there is a cycle:
  • Temporary Lockout
  • Permanent Lockout
  • Unlock

Function, Lockout, Lockout again

If you do see the "Nothing to Scan" you then go to the system you want and unlock it.

Did you use software to set the radio up ?

Here is the long way to lockout Public Service.
hit Menu, Program System.,
turn the knob to highlight 'Search for', hit YES
Service Search, turn to highlight Edit Service, hit YES
Public Safety, hit YES
turn knob to highlight Search With Scan, hit YES.
set Quick Key, turn knob to set Lock Out, hit YES,
turn knob to highlight Lockout, hit YES
hit the SCAN button.

I find the three button thing much faster and easier.

Ok, what I did was I reset my scanner. I did 2+9+HOLD and now I see Nothing to Scan so it should be ok now !! :)
The real reason why I was messing with my scanner is my P25 system the voices are coming in all broken up, but I will have to do another post about that.

I am looking for the modulation for my local P25 trunk system right now. I have it on NFM, but as I Googled it, it gives me PSK-C4FM-TDMA

If you're seeing "NFM" while trying to scan a P25 system on a Uniden scanner, it's often related to it seeing a signal but unable to decode the system - sometimes related to simulcast distortion.

It's a BCD 325P2 and it's Ottawa trunk system. When I did check the system database it didn't say Simulcast on it, so I didn't think it would be that issue with distortion. I have it as NFM as that is what it would be normally set to, but I could change it to what it supposed to be for the system .

I would assume a city the size of Ottawa is using simulcast transmissions, as are most other P25 systems in the province. Perhaps someone more local can confirm this.

I don't think there's any settings for designating C4FM vs QPSK modulation on the system programming. If you're seeing it flash NFM on a P25 system from time to time as you move around, you're likely in simulcast territory.

Generally it looks like trunked P25P2 systems are C4FM and P25P1 systems are CQPSK. There is no hard rule though.

So I did some research and I found this. If I am right it says FM should be the modulation for P25 system. That tells me that Ottawa P25 trunk system is FM even if there is no modulation listed in the system info .

P25 systems are FM modulated using the C4FM or CQPSK formats. Typically P25P1 uses CQPSK and P25P2 uses C4FM. There are exceptions. If your using TFAL and can see Ottawa listings (lol not going to happen) but the specific modulation type would be listed.

Also aside from CB (AM) and Aircraft (AM) everything your going to listen to on a scanner is going to be in FM mode. The FM mode may have a format such as DMR, NXDN, C4FM or CQPSK or even no format. There are other formats active such as TETRA. If in doubt ask and someone will be able to help you out.

Ok thank you. So I am assuming that I should change my P25 Phase ll to FM. I set Auto as the Band Plan has it set to NFM, but I will make the change to FM.
I heard a NXDN system as I am scanning the Ottawa school transportation fleet it should be NFM for NXDN, I'm pretty sure.
Reason why I was talking about FM was i saw Toronto P25 system has FM as one of their sites.

Modulation:C4FM
copied from Toronto site but my scanner doesn.t have C4FM only FM

I am too far from Ottawa to hear the system. The scanner will auto detect the C4FM or CQPSK data.
