You can find the system on the RR Database, assuming it's been entered, taking the
system ID e.g. 1DF, and use "Search by System ID". This ID is displayed by the scanner,
and decoding software e.g. Pro96com, Unitrunker, DSD+.

You can also use Trunked Frequency Search, selecting Project 25 (pulldown) and the frequency
e.g. 867.0375 and you should see Gatineau (and likely others which you can ignore).

Gatineau P25 system is listed under Quebec. It has 6 sites, therefore 6 CCs.
To my observation the CC's don't rotate.

Not a strong signal east of Ottawa.

Looks like it is a new site for the Ottawa system.

Hello RC1990,

Unitrunker is amazing, I have been using it for a few years now and I just keeps on getting better.

Not only can it decode a control channel, it can steer an SDR device to follow talk groups.
With two SDR devices, no other radio is required. (unless you use an old scanner with a tap to send the CC to Unitrunker and then only one SDR device is required)

I almost forgot to say that UT can now send analog audio to a sound device, and it can send digital audio to DSD so you can listen to P25 or Provoice. And it is free!

Hey, In the Ottawa area and looking at getting my first scanner. Looking at getting a BCD436HP. Any thoughts?

I'm trying to research this as best as I can but its a steep learning curve. Can EDACS in Ottawa for the Public Service be decoded via a portable unit, how much of the P25 system will be Digital vs Encrypted. Should I wait?

Thanks in advance.

One never knows, all you can do is wait. Personally tho the 436 is a great choice, really a nice unit.. however that being said I like the GRE PSR800 just as much. Even if Ottawa PS goes encrypted there are lots of other things to listen too.. searching the bands can be fun also.

Well I guess i should wait and see. In the mean time I've ordered a SDR and I'll see how that goes. How do you find the prorgramming with the Homepatrol models?

I hope this new site is a west site. I'll have to check this out from home (Almonte). The original documented site that was listed in the db had zero coverage west of Greenbank.

I expect that it is...SS on Site 1 CC is very low here so it's not close to the other site. I
heard some testing a while back where they referred to Kinburn, probably where the site is.

Out here in Almonte I'm pulling in the Site 1 system at 5 solid bars on my BCD996XT.

Plugging the CC into my unitrunker SDR dongle setup gives the same details as previously supplied.

This has probably already been mentioned before, but my SearchFu is failing me today. What SDR devices are popular for use with this system? I use an old Pro-2020 with UniTrunker, but it won't go to 800MHz. Links to <ahem> inexpensive sources appreciated. :)

I bought this a couple of years ago: Newsky TV28T V2 USB DVB T RTL SDR Receiver RTL2832U R820T Tuner MCX Input | eBay

Do yourself a favour and get a MCX to BNC connector to rig the dongle to a proper antenna.

exactly what mciupa said. Unitrunker currently only natively supports the RTL2832U with R820T tuner. i would suggest buying two dongles and two of those MCX to BNC pigtails to be up and running.

here are the exact items i bought through amazon

dongle - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009U7WZCA/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item
pigtail - Amazon.com: RF coaxial coax cable assembly BNC male to MCX male right angle 12'': Computers & Accessories

dongles shipped fast.. pigtails were a bit slower by a week.

you can however if patient... feed disc audio into unitrunker from a different chip using SDRSharp. you can read up on unitrunker and SDR support here. UniTrunker | Realtek

more discussion/help on this can be found in the control channel decoding forum. Trunking Control Channel Decoding - The RadioReference.com Forums
