Shout out's to @goldmyne99 @FreqNout and @btt. I have the Wio Terminal and Wio battery with Todd's demo program and it work's great. It is nice to glance over at the display without having a computer on. The quick start guide provides perfect information. I look forward to seeing where this goes. A coder I am not. There are two thoughts that I am mulling over. Would it be nice to have a clock and battery gauge or would that clutter the display to much. The Wio battery I have is the second version with battery information provided. Thanks again everyone!

This looks great and easy enough for me to try. Question the Wio plugs into the PC via a USB C cable provided, is that cable USB C to USB C or USB A connector? Another question the Wio also plus into the P25RXII, what are the cable USB connector types. What are people doing for power, using a 5Volt USB charger?
Thanks

My Wio will be in tomorrow (Thurs), I hope to be able to give this a go!
I ordered 2 of them from Digikey.

Many thanks to Todd and goldmyne99 for the basic setup.

I would like to see the Arduino sketch. This whole thing has my head wondering about lots of cool stuff.

You are welcome. The more users that get a Wio, the more ideas we will have to share. I will send you my sketch in a private message. Once the new API is released there will be example code on the btt web page

The cable that comes with the Wio is a short USB A to USB C.
Connecting the Wio to the P25RX models requires a USB C to USB C cable.
I use a 5v usb power pack into the Wio GPIO pins. A 5v charger would also be an option.

Fantastic. Great to hear the quick start guide helped. Once Todd finishes the API work, example code will be posted on the btt web page. It may also be a good place for the coders to share their UF2 files with everyone. With the joystick and buttons, multiple screens could be added to prevent clutter, etc. You are the first one to report using the Wio Battery option. Please report back on battery runtime.

I agree, this couldn't have been easier.
I just received my Wio made a couple of power wires to USB A, copied the UF2 file and it works great! Took less than 10 minutes including crimping pins to the power wires. I did order the battery for a portable install, it should be here next week.
Thanks to all involved. Thank you to @goldmyne99 and @btt for the assist to learning some code.

I could envision finding a vintage scanner such as a Bearcat-8, gutting it, mounting the P25RX-II inside with an audio amp to drive the speaker... the Wio on top for control. Would make a nice vintage/state-of-the-art fusion sitting on our kitchen counter.

The Wio device should have enough GPIO to support all kinds of P25RX projects.

Like your Bearcat 8 example -- I could see a Bearcat 210 case with a P25RX inside. Updating the 210's LED display with new 16 x1 (or 16 x 2) character LCD display. Perhaps modifying the 210's keypad and buttons to control the P25RX. Too many project ideas...life is short. Enjoy the journey.

I have the Wio terminal with the Wio battery chassis and a P25RX. I average 45 minutes to an hour battery life with lite to moderate radio traffic. I believe Todd mentioned that the Bluetooth is always on in the P25RX. I decided on the battery chassis for ease of connection, GPIO and just being lazy. I have USB batteries so if I really want to be portable I can use those.

Let me know if you would like a UF2 image with Bluetooth disabled.

Thank you but for now I am good. I believe there is another one in the works with the sketch to be released. I am a stare and compare so I should be able to toggle at that point.

I received the battery unit this evening. I can't say it is plug-and-play. It looks nice stacked, but it isn't supplying power to the Wio or P25RX at this point. I will dig into it. At first glance, it appears that it is not the plug and play solution I was hoping it would be.

Todd, there is a small black dot on the bottom of the battery to turn it on and off. Orange led lights up when it's on.
I see that "black dot". I assume that is an led? Ok, I give. How do I make it work? lol. I was hoping (mostly for my customers) that it would just work. I know.. too much to ask.

I see that I probably need to iniitialize the battery in firmware (BQ27441-GIA). I will get this done shortly and also add code to enable/disable Bluetooth while I'm at it.
