That's unfortunate for my area in NW PA. The lifeguards at our state park on Lake Erie have struggled with OpenSky for years. Reception is so bad they can't even hear their dispatch office which is right across the street! They even put up antennas on their stands, but still have trouble receiving. I was hoping they would have the new radios for this summer season.......
The real question here is, why are they on the network when their dispatch office is right across the street!? I feel like there are some obvious uses for simplex still!

Does anyone know if there's rhyme or reason to 150mhz sites versus 800mhz sites? It makes sense in Harrisburg and other built-up areas. But there seem to be some random less-urban areas where 800mhz is popping up. Is it channel availability?

I'm sure the availability of VHF channels in some areas plays an issue. Obviously they have received spectrum from the feds to build out some sites using 168-172 MHz frequencies...most of those are located right near NPS sites, not coincidentally. So far no VHF sites have been licensed in Pike County under either the commonwealth or First Energy, so perhaps they've already obtained more of that fed spectrum due to proximity to the DWG National Recreation Area, if the pattern continues.

I suspect that the other reason for some of these 800 MHz sites/cells has to do with existing county systems. Note that Chester, Montgomery, and York counties all have 700/800 P25 systems, and they all have 800 MHz sites/cells for the commonwealth's P25 system now.

As well as the fact that OpenSky is fully 800mhz as well and those sites are all over the place because of how crappy that system is

That theory doesn't really hold up around Pittsburgh though, most all usage there is UHF. My assumption was that there would be a greater concentration of users near the city and handing off to an 800 site would relieve some of the wide area VHF sites of the city traffic.

800 MHz has better in-building penetration than VHF, that's why it's preferred in urban areas.

1.70 Devault CHES02 is reporting a 1.89 peer on 151.1675.

Is it reporting it as being online? That would be progress. Otherwise, I think various sites have been reporting 1.89 (BUCK33 - Buckingham PA) as a neighbor for a while now, but in failed / not online state.

Unitrunker v1 will not show adjacent sites that are not in WIDE mode* on the Peers tab; however the site will appear in the full list of sites in the main window for the system itself. So basically, if you're using v1 and you do see a site in the Peers tab of the site you're decoding, then the site is "active". If you have any doubt you can clear the list of peers to reset them.

Unitrunker v2 will show them in the Peers list, with a different status than the sites that are in WIDE mode.

* aka ISOLATED or FAILED or DISCONNECTED or whatever terminology various software uses

I don't think Mahnoy would be in my range, that is pretty far out and I am getting a great signal. Plus the 2nd freq points to Bowmanstown.Annotation 2019-04-11 094750.jpg

Thanks. 153.185 and 153.32 make it conclusive that it is Bowmanstown. Thank you.

Please submit your findings to the database when you can - https://www.radioreference.com/apps/submit/?sid=9276

Could you also snag a screenshot of the neighbor list. I see one neighbor there, but I would have expected more neighbors. Maybe the screenshot was taken before the neighbor list was able to populate. I think you can hit N to have it re-display the neighbor list.
