I purchased a new computer recently which obviously lacks either a parallel or a serial port. I do have a few older printers that I have been using over parallel, and serial for a few scanners, my 7800, as well as knowing its there when I need it for other common place applications.

I do know that there seems to be the good and bad of the USB adapters as far as what they seem to work with. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands for either USB or PCI adapters? Has anyone used a PCI serial / parallel card for programming?

Thanks.

I have a small PC setup with two dual serial port PCI cards so I have 4 usable serial ports for scanner operation and programming. You can pick them up from newegg.com for about $10...search for 'RC-301'.

You might want to confirm that the supplied drivers are VISTA compatible, or that the manufacture can supply them, in the event that your new computer runs VISTA, or you intend to in the future.

Yeah the first ones I had looked at were the SIIG I believe because it has 1 Parallel and 1 Serial and only takes up 1 slot. As many of you have mentioned that the Rosewell's have worked well then I might just have to use up the last two with something like this

Anyone used the RC-303 before? The reviews sound good for printing which is probably all I would use the parallel for. The website also shows drivers for vista.
