I was able to buy one of the PCR100s on E-bay for $75 including softare and powersupply. The radio works great but the software supplied is designed for the PCR1000. A few commands such as activatiing the PC speakers versus connecting and external speaker, don't work the same for the PCR100. Anyone have a copy of the old Icom PCR100 software I can use?

If anyone has a suggestion for comercial or other shareware software that will drive the PCR100, including importing data files, I'd like to know about it. Thanks!

Just a quick correction to what jjz said...TalkPCR is a windows program. Probe1k is a an excellent DOS program, but is worth the $$$, although not totally sure it works with the 100, maybe only the 1000.

TalkPCR is in my opinion, about the best you can get for free. There is a new version 3.0 available to members of the TalkPCR Yahoo group (in the files section). The biggest improvement over the older versions is it seems to use very little processor power than before.

Enjoy your new radio!

Thanks for that correction Ryan. I guess the best way to verify if Probe1K will work with the PCR100 would be to post a question on its associated Yahoo group - that way you will know if you are wasting your time or not. The original page for TalkPCR doesn't say much about which Windows it works with, so it's hard to know whether it was a Windows or DOS product. I know better now. 73s Mike

I have the ICOM software that is normally supplied with the radio. It runs on WinXP also. If you send me a PM with your email address I'll be glad to send it to you.

I think TrunkPCR is my favorite however. I've also have TalkPCR, but TrunkPCR goes way above and beyond TalkPCR! You can even link to RR's database with TrunkPCR and import frequencies directly into the programs, just like you do with Butel, and Starr's software! That alone should talk you into it!

GreatLakes, thanks for the PCR100 software offer but I think you are right. The TrunkPCR is pretty good. I also downloaded the TalkPCR software as well, another great product. What I like about TalkPCR is that you can set a scan range and search and the software logs the frequency date, signal strength etc. I think you can then import the file as well but I am not sure.

I love the idea of downloading freqs from RR with TrunkPCR. I just have to donate for the software (TrunkPCR) and donate as well to RR. This is well worth it to me. I was wondering if you or anyone else knew of a downloadable manual for TrunkPCR? Looking at the help screens gets tiresome.

I wasn't aware that TalkPCR did anything that can't be done in TrunkPCR. Maybe Jay can add that "search log" feature. He's constantly finding ways to improve it.

The RR fee is very reasonable, and TrunkPCR has a range of fees, depending on what capacity you require.

Yes I agree, TrunkPCR is in desperate need of documentation. As you mentioned the only docs are on-line, and only cover a fraction of the program's capability. Jay is aware of that, and mentioned he had two volunteers that were working on it, but they kind of dropped off the project, and Jay's time has been booked. So I guess we have to be patient, or volunteer ourselves. Currently I don't know enough about it to even begin to do that.

I have the original Icom software that will work with XP SP2. If you PM me your regular email address I'll be glad to send it to you.

I have been using Talk PCR with my PCR 100, running on an HP Pavillion with Vista Home Premium, and it was working fine. It will only work if connected to comport 6, though. Today, after having not used it in a while, I set the PCR 100 up again. It's working fine but if I try to close the program I get a popup saying Failed to set data for 'ProcVal'

I have no idea what this error message is, as it has never popped up before. Any ideas? Thanks.

The Icom software was written years ago. It doesn't find the COM port automatically, you have to set it in the configuration.

I tried both Com Ports, strange..

The software will address up to ten different COM ports. Which COM port is your computer set to (or what port is TrunkPCR working on)? Also don't forget to click on the power button...some people do because they're not used to a software controlled radio.

Do you have any other software running in the background such as a fax modem, Palm Pilot, Pocket PC, etc?
