Phantom Antenna's on UHF High Split

Anyone have experience with UHF Phantom Antenna's, particularly this one: http://www.antenex.com/index051206.htm I am looking to transmit and receive with a UHF radio (450-512mhz). Being that Im looking for a low profile antenna, I was wondering if anyone had anything to report about this antenna. Looking for reception and transmit comments.

I have one of the 800Mhz models that I use for my Pro2096 scanner. It works GREAT for that....

But you wanted to know about UHF and TRANSMIT though, right....

Our city school transportation director has on on his Jeep. He didn't want a bunch of antennas sitcking up everywhere, so he bought one of those....

They operate on 461.125 (repeater output) and he goes all over our county with it. Talks back in to the repeater just fine.

We are in a hilly SE Ohio county too. Again, it works just fine....I think you will be just fine with that model....

Thanks Steve. I have only seen them on PD cars and they have receive sites all over the place so a piece of string could work for them. I just found them and couldnt find much feedback on them.

I've just ordered one of the low profile antennas for my Yaesu 2M rig. I will let you know how it works once I get it. It should be here this week....

Hi Luke and all,

A UHF quarter wave is only a 6" whip, you can't get much lower profile than that and it costs peanuts (or free if you snag one from Radio Repair) as compared to a "beer can" or "hockey puck".

Sorry Steve, 2M is a far cry from 70cM so your results will be quite different and useless to Luke.

If you've followed my recent threads about mobile antenna's, I am looking for something small and low profile. Although I am aware that something 6" may be better, I really cannot afford (not by cost) to go with something that tall. I am trying to be as incognito as possible. I am hoping the Phantom receives well but Im sure it will be fine on the transmit side. Even with a 6" whip, my receive wasnt so great. I guess I have to compromise somewhere...
